Greg (Springfield, MO): Jason Marquis just hit an RBI double for the Cardianls against the Phils. Perhaps the Cardinals are trying to convert the wrong pitcher to a position player? Are there any pitchers in the NL that you think should bat anywhere in the lineup other than 9th?

SportsNation Rob Neyer: (4:29 PM ET ) No, there are not. Marquis was fantastic last season, and that was an impressive double he just ripped (I'm watching). But he's a .240 career hitter with roughly 130 strikeouts and 12 walks per 600 plate appearances. There's not a pitcher in the game who would consistently out-hit Neifi Perez.

I got a good laugh out of that.

If you let Zambrano, Marquis or DTrain DH and practice hitting exclusively, they would outproduce Neifi with the bat.

I would have to agree with you. But since pitchers don't take batting practice all the time I don't think there are any pitchers that could out hit Neifi Perez.

Okay, Fred, but can any of those guys out-ROCK Rubby Perez? I think not.

If this was the late 70's they would have said Mario Mendoza. So Neifi has become the modern day Mario Mendoza.
