I'm starting a covert operational team to go to Puerto Rico and steal Yulieski Gourriel away from the Cuban National team.

But on the serious side, what are the chances that he'll ever make it to the MLB?

If there ever was a time to defect, now would pretty much be it.

The kid can play!

No kidding, that HR at the end of the game was impressive. I also really liked Cuba's 19-yr old starting pitcher.

that's the only reason i want castro out of power, so the cubs can score some sweet cubans

You know the Cubs wouldn't get them. :(

Not legally anyways, but since it's Cuba who cares about the laws? This is why we're forming a covert strike team to go down there and take the players that we want. Our elite strike team will be making regular trips to communist countries to extract their best talent and import it to the US under the radar.

I think Rocket meant that even if he defects, he'd be a Yankee or Red Sox player.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see some attempted defections, especially if Cuba advances in the WBC

But C-U-B-A to C-U-B-S is such an easy transition involving only one letter. In fact, if the Cubs switched to a cursive C-U-B-S it would be hard to tell the difference.

There are always a couple of players left behind anytime Cuba leaves their country for an international tourney. I am sure a couple of agents are hanging money from sticks trying to get his attention.

What was the name of that 2nd baseman the Yankees bought about 3 years ago. Haven't heard of him since so I can't remember (was it Andy Morales?). Still prospects are prospects.

1B Kendry Morales defected to the Angels awhile ago if that's who you're thinking about.

That's the only reason. I hope you're kidding.

Supposedly Castro received some asurances that there would be no defections before agreeing to participate. I guess we'll have to wait and see how empty those assurances were.

I can't see any US authority telling the kid no if he tried to...

And yes..he looks amazing. Plug him into 2nd base for the next 10 years and I'd be happy....

The U.S. could refuse to grant him assylum and then deport him back to Cuba.

most likely the cuban government has a hold of his family or someone that will suffer if he tries to defect. These guys aren't nice

My friend tells a story about going down to Florida when he was a young child and noticing in the local paper that the Cubs were in first place. When he got back to Chicago they were in last place. As it turns out, he was mistaking the Cubs for the Cubans in the paper.
