His biggest goal this season is to win a gold glove doesn't think it's beyond him. Says the White Sox have put a sense of pressure for them to win. Doesn't want the White Sox to steal a younger generation of fans . He wants to be that team that everyone roots for.

So refreshing to hear the truth. Darn right the White Sox have added some pressure.

Seriously I got a great deal of respect for Bare after seeing that interview. He seemed very genuine about everything he said, and the things he said suprised me. I've seen everyone else on the Cubs downplay the Sox winning the title, but he didnt. Also I was really suprised to hear about his goal of winning a gold glove. Sure I doubt he will ever come close even, but its nice to hear that defense is among his biggest goals.

If he continues to hit well that will improve his chances of winning a gold glove. The GG is more about reputation and star power than anything else.

Matheny is living proof that the "hit well enough to win a gold glove" doesn't really apply to catchers.

If there is one standout defensive player he usually get the Gold Glove. Matheny was clearly the best for a while. But if guys are one of two erros apart, then the guy with the best offensive stats gets the Gold Glove. So it sure doesn't hurt to be a good hitter.

But he is also proof that reputation goes a long way toward winning the award.

He hasn't looked overrated whenever I've seen him play.
