again, i know why they have them, but the games won't be as good as they could be if the players were at full speed

There is no time when any of these guys would be at full speed, let alone the rosters at full and proper capacity.

I would prefer that the WBC took place after the season, instead of during spring training. However, even then, I would put pitch counts into place, but they probably wouldn't have to be as low as they are during the spring.

Depending on when other countries' professional seasons end, perhaps have the WBC withing a couple weeks of the end of the World Series. Of course, then you run into issues with some pitchers in the WBC from MLB playoff teams, especially the World Series teams, throwing too many innings for the year (regular season, Division Series, Championship Series, World Series).

Then again, the WBC is only every four years (although they're saying that it will only be three years between this one and the next).

I don't know where I'm going with this. :?

Why? Is it so they can run in years without Futbol's World Cup and the Olympics?

here's a thought, every few years extend the all-star break to a week or week and a half and play the WBC then. You can cut the field down if you have to, we don't really need italy, netherlands, and some more. Then you could have an actual world baseball classic, not some lame spring training games with different teams

What about after the world series? After the regular season those participating could work out some with their new team to stay sharp, then when the WS is over you have the classic, if players get hurt it's the best time for them to get hurt, and baseball is still fresh in people's minds from the WS.

I believe that is exactly why. I remember hearing that they didn't want it the same year as Olympic competition (be it summer or winter).

I agree. I'd prefer to play this after the season. Keep interest in baseball for another couple weeks after the season. This is going to be a hectic month of March. I can't wait!

i renew my objection to z pitching in this terrible thing.

Z doesn't agree with you.

Baseball America[/url]"]While the focus for many has been on the foibles of the event, for those paying attention many participants and fans have shown a lot of enthusiasm. For example, Cubs righthander Carlos Zambrano proudly declared he wants the ball for Venezuela in its opening game against the Dominican Republic.

"I like challenges and I think this could be a big one," Zambrano told ESPNdeportes.com. "I think they will be the best team in the World Classic and I want to face them."

Z also probably doesn't have a problem with Dusty leaving him in a game for 130 pitches early in the season.

Likely a much bigger concern than Z's pitch counts in the WBC will be.

True, but it all counts.

He'd be throwing the same number of pitches in Spring Training. He'll just enjoy throwing these more, and I'll enjoy watching them more.

It seems the Dominican juggernaut has lost quite a bit of steam over the past couple days. Both Vlad and Pedro have pulled out of the tourney at the last minute. Oh, and Manny Ramirez decided he won't play, either. They should sill be good, but losing those guys has got to be a blow to any team.
