I look at it out my window all day at work and drive by it every day...it'll be done...or at least as much of it as they expected to be done, by opening day. All reports are that it is ahead of schedule....and BTW...it looks awsome in person.

Is it just me or is there really not much that stands out about the new Cardinals stadium? I looks like a PNC/Citizens/GAB mix to me.

Will a Cardinals fan please tell me about some cool quirks or features with the new ballpark. As much as I hate the Cards, the Cubs deserve to play their arch rivals in a great ballpark all the time instead of 50% of the time.

I'm not one for "cool quirks". I hate Houston's park with the too short left field, train on tracks and hill in dead center. (Thank goodness they got rid of the flagpole on the field.) Or San Diego's left field corner with the warehouse hanging over the field. Or Arizona's pool just over the center field fence.

At least the new Busch has fair and decent dimensions and didn't turn it into a homerun park to build up Albert Pujols' numbers. The initial indications are that it will be a balanced to slightly favoring the pitcher park.

Yeah maybe quirks wasn't the right word. I dunno from looking at those pictures the park looks really bland and doesn't stand out to me from other recent ballparks. Maybe its just a result of the number of new ballparks around.

You're right. Having so many new places make it blur all together.

Same thing with all the new football stadiums. Seattle's Qwest Field is about the only one I like and find original.

I think it's just going to be a really nice stadium that's a great place in which to watch a game. It'll be about the game on the field and not a freakin' carnival atmosphere like a lot of other new places.

well I believe the view of the arch from the field will let everyone know they are in St. Louis...the open stadium with the view will be a great site.

Which places do you consider to be like a carnival? It seems to me like this stadium is going to be very similar to the ones in Denver, Philly, and Pittsburgh.

Detroit and Atlanta set the standard for carnival parks IMHO, and they both suck.

Never been to Detroit, but I like Atlanta. I've been there 3 times, sitting in various areas and thought it was a nice park to see a game in. There was a carnival feel in the entrance area prior to Game 5 in 2003, but I got there early and was watching NFL games anyway, so I don't see the problem with that. Once the game starts, it was all about the game, and it was a lot of fun.

The "cool quirks" that Busch will have that other new stadiums don't have is a highly competetive team and a die-hard fan following.

It's being promoted as an extremely comfortable stadium....... a great place to watch baseball. I wouldn't want anything more or anything less, really.

Our clown theatrics are not in the stands, but on the field. :-)

IMHO the worst "carnival" place is Houston. The hill in center field. The flag powl at the top of that hill (now removed). The train running along tracks in left field when there's a Houston homerun. The extremely short left field corner. Plus the name: Minute Maid Park.

I don't think Atlanta is that bad. But the new jumbotron the size of the Hancock Tower is cornball. Busch III will have the same model, but smaller.

At least it wasn't called Enron Field at one point. Oh wait...

or PacBell. Oh wait...

or SBCPark. Oh wait...

or AT&T Park...(just wait)

Yeah well none of those companies is tied to one of the biggest scandals in corporate American history!

Atlanta's cornball stuff isn't on the field. The kiddie playland, nonsense at the gates (which are at the wrong end of the park) and cartoon characters running around like they're at Kings Island are what really pissed me off.

I've never been to Detroit, but I assumed it had to be a joke of a park when I saw photos of actual carnival rides on the gounds.

Perhaps you should go then. The ferris wheel and merry go round are nowhere near the playing field at all. They are secluded far away from the field on the concourse and are easily avoidable.

I'll do just that the next time the Cubs play there.
