If you read this article, it supposes that Hairston might win the 2b job over Walker. In the third paragraph, the article mentions that he didnt' find his stride until the second half, and it goes on a little more about it after that. Are they talking about the same Hairston that had a .361 OBP before the break, and a .303 OBP after the break? I thought he was a lot better when he was playing his native position than when he was trying to adjust to a new position in CF (he had a .364 OBP when he played 2nd, a .327 OBP when in the outfield, and a .200 OBP as a pinch hitter).

The article just stood out as odd, that's all...

The Cubs' 136 double plays last year were third fewest in the National League

The Cubs WHIP was also 6th best in the NL, meaning fewer men reached base than a lot of teams, ultimately resulting in less chances for a DP.

Kiley is the one reporter that keeps harping on Todd Walker not starting at 2B this year. All winter, he was the writer who kept saying Perez was on the top of the depth chart and now he's throwing support for Hairston.

I honestly don't see Walker being with the Cubs on opening day. I would like to see a healthy Jerry Hairston get a shot and see what he can do if that is the case.

Unfortunately, I agree. Walker is a deadman walking, no pun intended. What is worse, I envision him being traded for a minor league filler or washed up bench player "who knows how to play the game the right way" and is a "good clubhouse guy".

if we needed a 5-7 hitter walker would be perfect, but we need a 2 hitter. I like hairston better their because of his speed.

maybe if jones can hit well, then he could bat 2nd and walker 5th.

Walker is by far the best 2 hitter on the team. Jones can't hit well, we already know that.

And if he's gone, I wouldn't mind seeing Murton in that spot.

The Cubs brass kept saying how they were happy with Hairston's second half and how well he did, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Sounds like the unlearned media is picking up on it.

Hairston made 2 awesome plays in centerfield one day and that made Dusty think he's a gamer.

Yup, despite his extreme downturn in offensive production, Hairston really "caught the ball" in the second half. Thats why management thinks he had a better second half.
