Cubs should have snagged him when Washington took him off the 40-man. Iowa bullpen is looking a bit soft what with JVB and Leicester gone, and Novoa potential trade bait.

I always liked Beltran if the kid could have just stayed healthy. As it is, if the Cubs had grabbed him back, the net trade long-term for us would have been Brendan Harris and an injured Justin Jones (career-ending?) for Matt Murton, that's a pretty sweet deal.

There are probably some unwritten rules or understandings that kept Hendry from claiming Beltran. Breaking those rules could come back to haunt them later on.

I never liked Beltran when he was here. He could never find the damned plate. I remember one outing against the Cardinals where he gave up like 5 runs and I was on the verge of breaking things.

Wasn't that the game where he gave up a grand slam to maybe J.D. Drew? If I remember correctly, the Cubs were down big and came back and won that game.

No. JD Drew was a Brave in 2004.

That was the game in which Pujols hit 3 home runs.

The Cubs were up 8-2 in the 6th.

Baker pulled Rusch after Rolen and Edmonds hit singles.

I turned to the guy next to me and said, "If he was going to pull Rusch, why didn't he do it before the inning started? And why is he pulling him after he made it through Pujols/Rolen/Edmonds?"

And the Cards came back and won the game.

And Latroy melted down at the end and went after the umpire.

You're thinking of Felix Sanchez on September 3, 2003. One of the most exciting regular season Cubs game I've ever seen. Or rather, would have seen if I didn't chuck my hat at the TV before turning it off. I listened in over the internet as they won 8-7.

Thank you, JonMDavis, for giving me the smooth, silky sounds of Pat and Ron. You know, even in the cold and windy days of the winter, Pat and Ronny remind me of summer and bring a smile to my face every single time.

Thanks for the smile, and thanks for reminding me of warmer days ahead...

I was actually in attendance for the game you're thinking of. July 20, 2004. I don't think that was the game I originally posted about.

Cubs were up 8-2 after 3 and lost the game 11-8.

And I will say till my dying day that LaTroy tried to punch that umpire. I was there. I saw him make a fist and rear his arm back, and then it came forward. It came like 2 inches from the umpires face.

And my brother and I almost got into a fistfight outside the stadium after the game. But we're cool now.

To the Tigers, we got Jon Connolly back. He took a step back this year, pitching in A ball.

I was there. We gave Matt Morris a standing ovation when he got yanked in I wanna say the 2nd inning after giving up those 8 runs. Thought we were in for a great day. Then the rest of the game happened.

That was the second most pissed I'd ever been at the Cubs.

The first being Game 6.
