Vance, let me pose this question to you. Play GM for a minute. What would you as GM give up to Boston to get Manny in return. That you think they would except. Same with Abreu and Philly.

I'm not Vance, but Philly would be stupid not to accept Williams, Pie and Hill for Abreu.

Boston's in a different spot. They don't have to deal Manny, since they can afford him, but if they can fleece a team, they'll deal him. My guess is it would take Lee, Williams, Cedeno, Hill and Harvey with the Cubs picking up at least 75% of his salary. And I wouldn't touch it with a 10 ft pole.

Maybe, just maybe in July.I can see that working for both clubs. Lets just hope the Sox dont get him first.

Did I read that right?

A month ago the BoSox were all anxious to deal Manny, Clement, and cash to the O's for Tejada.

But now from the Cubs they'd demand Lee, Williams, Cedeno, Hill and Harvey?

I thought it was supposedly a Manny/cash for Tejada deal straight up and never heard Clement's name. Of course I could be wrong.

Was that before or after Manny "changed his mind"?

Nevertheless, Tejada is valued higher than Lee would be for the Red Sox. Plus, look at what they wanted from Anaheim-their 2 best prospects, in addition to 2 ML ready players AND all of Manny's salary. That's pretty steep, and what I put up there is roughly comparable, given that Lee has only had one great season over the course of his career.

I personally don't see a match with the Cubs and Boston. Boston isn't going to pay Manny to play elsewhere. The Cubs could likely expand the budget to absorb his contract, but if we did, I wouldn't offer as much in terms of players. If I'm taking on Manny's contract, then I'm not offering as much in the way of players.

I might offer Murton and Williams or something comparable to that, but not much more.

As far as Abreu, the contract isn't as ornerous and Abreu is a better defender, but not as potent with the bat. I'd offer a package of Williams, Pie, and Wellemeyer for Abreu. I'd substitute Welly for another minor leaguer if they desired. If they prefered Murton to Pie, I'd do that. If they prefered Hill to Williams, I could make that switch, but those are the deals I'd consider.

Well done Vance, thanks. When Hendry gets fired, I nominate you for GM. :D

I will readily admit that I in no way have the skills to be a GM. I'm not saying it is out of my realm of ability to learn, but there is a lot I would have to understand before I could do the job adequately. I'd need to learn some of the finer points of scouting as well as develop some understanding of finances before I'd be near ready for such an undertaking. But thanks for your nomination. :)

I doubt the Sox or Pilly would be willing to do those deals.

BTW, love the new avatar!

I doubt they would either, and in essence, that's why we're not a good match.
