Don't stone me, but Hidalgo looks like a classic case of steroids to me. Either way he's seen major decline by age 30!?! Stay away.

 

Steroids has often crossed my mind with Hidalgo. His decline has been pretty steep. If he's cheap and the Cubs are willing to cut bait if he doesn't produce, he wouldn't be a horrible option. On the other hand, I'd hate to be married to him for the season.

 

The correlation with his plate discipline is very strong. He sure never looked like he was on steroids either. Its possible but I think he has mental problems maintaining his approach.

I didn't have time to go through all the posts in this thread so I don't know if it's been said, but I honestly don't see any way Jones is platooned with anyone in RF - not for what we agreed to pay him.

I don't think that's true. I believe he was shot prior to the 2002 season. He had a bad 2002, but then bounced back for a very good 2003. I don't think the gun shot injury had anything to do with his horrendous numbers in 2004 and 2005.
