Can someone explain to me why the people over at Bears.com on the messageboard seems to think that Thomas Jones is gone? Am I missing something. By the way, if anyone knows of a Bears message board better than the Bears one, please let me know.

This would be the worst thing to ever happen.

Not really. You didn't draft Benson to be a backup for 2 years.

Agreed. And trading Thomas might allow us to get that 3rd rounder back. Jones is pushing 30 (IIRC) and RBs tend to take a swift downturn at that age. Plus he has never worked harder than he did last year, and wehave Adrian Peterson.

I would love to get value for Jones right now. He's a nice RB, but his value is at its highest since he was drafted. He's got 6 seasons under his belt, though as a part-timer most of those years, he's only endured maybe 4 years worth of carries. And I don't think it's realistic to think he'll get any better than he is now, which is well below the elite backs. If teams are only thinking about trading the Bears a 3rd round pick, then no thanks. But if they can get serious upgrades elsewhere, I'm fine with Benson and Peterson backed up, possibly, by a later round rookie. I didn't want them to draft a RB last year anyway, but now that they have, they should make the best of it and use him as the featured RB.

He'll turn 28 in the preseason. If all they can get is a 3rd round, then no way should they trade him. He's a starting RB, not a nickel back. There are several teams on the bottom half of the rushing list who fancy themselves as contenders and could be in need of a quality runner.

I wonder if Dallas Clark's name has entered the talks between CHI and IND.

I think we wont be able to trade him for more than a 3rd. No one wanted to trade for Edge or S. Alexander last year for a second. Of course, Jones contract status is a little more appealing than the other two, but he'll probably ask for a new contract.

Jones doesn't have a lot of bargaining room here. He's getting up there in age and he probably would destroy his earning potential by sitting out a year (If he decides to hold out). I'm all for trading him if we can get a second. Third round picks are generally useless (With some exceptions) so I'd hesitate in that case. Benson and Peterson both looked decent in limited action last year. I think they could carry the load.

Our running backs should be even better next year with a potent passing game.

I guess the Bears traded Mike Green to Seatle for a 6th rounder.

This solidifies my belief that we will be drafting a S in the first round.

I don't think Lovie was ever a fan of Green...

Honestly, if we could trade down the the top of the second and pick up a third in the process, I would wet myself. It looks like either Lewis or Pope would be there in the top of the 2nd. Or we could take a saftey and pick up Fasano in the late 2nd. This would be a great option.

Nice to see the Bears have a lot of options in this draft. I'm not sure what I want the Bears to do, but hopefully Angelo can continue his string of getting good players in rounds 2,3,4.

Bizarro prediction....

If TJ gets dealt and gives them another 2nd rd pick, the Bears pull a Detroit (i.e. position repeat) and take LenDale White in the first.

I'd hope the Bears would go for a speed back/ pass receiver. I'd go after a guy like Addai or Maroney, rather than a player that would be similar to Benson and Peterson for that matter.

But strangely, you don't have input on Bears personnel decisions... :)

That's what you think! Who you think was responsible for Curtis Enis?

So what does Green have left? As a Seahawks fan I like the deal as it adds depth without knowing how Hamlin comes back but give me an idea of how much Green can help.

Bulking up

Michael Haynes appeared to be all but finished in Chicago last season after five Sundays on the inactive list. He was drafted into a defense using bigger defensive ends and was not a fit in the Lovie Smith-Ron Rivera scheme using smaller edge rushers.

But the Bears have changed course with Haynes. Rather than try to shrink him to fit, the team is letting him find a "natural" weight under a program with strength and conditioning coordinator Rusty Jones. Haynes is in the 280-pound range and projected now as a pass-rushing tackle, which is an area of need.

I like this move, especially because the Bears seem to love rotating DTs all game.

And Tank has issues. Injuries and personal.
