I dont know if it's true or not but I just cant see the Bears making this move.

That's what my "Bears." post said before I edited it. I was hearing mixed opinions on whether or not that was true so I edited it.

If true, I'm not sure what to think. At least Jerry is exploring all options.

i've hated TO in the past, but i think that the bears would approach with caution, keeping him at arms length if they reach an agreement with him.

the big mistake that people have been making with TO is letting him be friends with everyone. that's the mistake the eagles made, at aleast. bring him in, lay out ground rules for him, let him know that the first time a rule is violated he'll be released, and make sure the cap hit would be minimal.

If that's the case then I agree, bring him in. His impact to our offense would be simply staggering. Moose on one side and him on the other would be a fearsome combo.

I won't go so far as to have 4 "woohoo" smileys, but I'm not exactly down on the idea. I think if it's handled right, it could be another Rodman type situation. A guy with a bad rep, but enormous talent that if kept under control can be a big piece to a championship. But I remain skeptical.

i think moose is a great 2nd receiver, and if TO was brought in, he'd be very successful.

I agree that Moose is a great possesion receiver. TO and Moose would compliment each other very well.

I think you pretty much have to just pay him top dollar and he'll be happy. That's what this has all been about. His old agent's screw up, coupled with the trade to Baltimore that he didn't like and ultimately the lower contract he felt forced to sign in Philly caused him to get pissed off and feel underpaid.

If they could find a way to pay him top dollar, there's a chance everything could work out. The next contract will likely be his last big contract, unless he just does the 1 year make good deal, which I doubt will happen. TO would be the indisputable best offensive player on the team. There would be no $100 million QB for him to feel underpaid.

Of course, you'd have to be ready to cut bait with him, and not try and pull the "if he won't play for us he won't play for anybody else" thing.

Semi-confirmed. Wouldn't Owens have to be traded for? Who would we give for him?

i don't know how the cap restrictions work, but i'd bet he could be had for a draft pick. and since philly is in a terrible negotiating spot, it probably wouldn't even have to be a high pick.

Would TO play for his Philly contract, or would he make a big stink again if the Bears didn't re-negotiate?

I have a sneaking suspicion that Benson could be the chip. Eagles need some sort of "pounding" back since the lack that in Westbrook.

I think we'd have to rework or give him a new contract.

I don't think Philly will be able to trade him, they will release him. But if they do trade him, I don't see how any team could try and have him play under his current deal. That deal, below market because of his past agent's mistake, is the entire reason for the problems (in his mind at least). I think that a team who signs TO should give him a top money contract, possibly with some insurance against him being a baby.

1 year guaranteed $8m (or whatever very close to top dollar is), then after 1 year he gets a sizable roster bonus (sort of a delayed signing bonus), and a salary for the next 4 years that would keep him among the highest paid. If the deal puts his salary among the highest for WR right now, allows the team a chance to walk away after 1 year if he's a jerk, but keeps him highly compensated if the team retains him, then it could work out for all parties.

The Bears would take a huge cap hit if they trade Benson. I don't think they should trade anything for TO, because I think Philly will end up releasing him anyway. But they might be better off trading Thomas Jones instead, although Philly just spent big on Westbrook this year.

I wasn't aware of Benson's cap hit if traded. Seemed like a good fit.

You don't think anyone will offer the Eagles anything? Even if the Eagles get a 6th round pick it's better than just releasing him. I think many teams would offer at least something for him. The Eagles are notoriously miserly, I think they won't cut him and get nothing or they would have done so already.

I think somebody will offer something, but it might not be worth it for them to take and suffer the cap hit from a trade. I just think they wanted to prove a point with TO, and didn't think it would go as far as it did. They didn't want him signing with a rival midseason, when they were still fighting for a spot. Now that time has passed, I think they would be more than happy to simply cut him, and I've read numerous "experts" who also think he'll be released after March 1.

It will be interesting to see. The Eagles were the team with the most money under the cap last year and usualy do not spend all the way up to the cap. I think if someone offers some picks they'd take the hit as they probably wouldn't spend that money anyway.

I'd love TO on the Bears.

With the GB and STL jobs taken, Rivera is definitely returning to the Bears, right?

I think he has an interview with the Bills and Raiders as well. I'm not 100% sure though.

Anyone hear the report that TO and Jerry Angelo had dinner in Chicago on Wednesday night?

http://bears.scout.com/2/491068.html

Now, this is the site that always seems to give us bogus Cubs rumors, so take it for what it's worth. But they do cite AM 1000 as their source, and the Bears have not denied that such a meeting took place (don't confirm it either).

I know this would be a controversial move. I like it, though. I'm the type of person, like many here, that doesn't give a damn about team chemistry if you're getting a superstar talent. TO has pretty much won wherever he has played. For all that was said about him in Philly, that team was great when he was playing. As for his age, he is getting a little old, but he keeps himself in incredible shape and even with a dropoff would be a great WR.

I also think, with what he's gone through this season, that he realizes that he's on his last NFL legs and needs to behave.

I would *love* to see Grossman having TO (and a new TE) as weapons in the offense next year. The offense would instantly become a strength.

Mark me down as *for* this move.

I'm iffy on T.O. On one hand, T.O. takes this offense to the next level. They now become a team that can win a game offensively, rather than one who pounds the ball and waits for the defense. Just adding T.O. to the current Bears team probably makes them the best team in the NFC by a decent margin.

On the other hand, he has a huge salary figure. With guys like Briggs and Tommie Harris needing to be locked up pretty soon. With the lack of depth on the O-line and defensive backfield. It wouldn't allow the Bears to upgrade in other areas beside the draft route.

I think a solid draft and a couple of decent FA signings could make this team the best in the NFC, without T.O. Not having T.O. also makes it a lot easier to sustain success, being that he wouldn't be taking up a chunk of the payroll.

And I didn't even mention anything about the personal issues.

All valid points.

Of course, if, as many expects, nobody bites on the trade front and they are forced to release him (Philly has little leverage with everyone knowing there's no chance he'll be playing for them next year), then his contract won't be much of an issue.

If this is true, why hasn't it been mentioned in any of the papers? It seems to me, if this is true, this would be huge news.
