The latest Trib article has some Prior quotes about the trade talk. The article is also being discussed in transactions, but the Prior part of it seems relevant here.

It's tough to misinterpret these quotes. :)

Prior said he believed the Cubs "weren't necessarily dangling me out there and trying to get rid of me," though he expected to discuss the trade rumor with Hendry later that evening.

"It would make sense from the standpoint that Jim wants a shortstop and [baltimore] needs pitching," Prior said. "Obviously they're not going to want guys in [Class] A ball and Double A. They want guys ready to pitch right now at the big-league level.

"If they're going to request me, if it's an honest negotiation, that's part of the business. Now if there is something out there where they are trying to trade me, I would hope somebody would just be honest with me and tell me that. But I don't think that's the case."

Prior has three more seasons before he's eligible for free agency, and wants to play for the Cubs for many years to come.

"I love playing here, " he said. "I have no desire to leave. There was a report I wanted to jump ship and go out west. I have no desire [to go]. I love playing in the city of Chicago, I love the town, I love being here. I didn't think I could be as fortunate as I was to fall here out of college.

"I love watching the Bears. I love watching the Bulls. I don't think there is any other town as good as Chicago that offers so much … [in] all aspects of life."

I think I have a man crush on both Woody AND Prior now.

:D

those are the sweetest words I've read this offseason other than Macias DFA'd

Oh and Yearofdacubs - his response was EXACTLY what I was talking about - in not blaming Hendry for mishandling this one case. It's part of the business, as long as Hendry isn't dangling him.

Hmm - well I'm certainly glad it doesn't look like he's going to bolt. :)

Prior/Dempster/Lee - The Holy Trinity of Cubs Class

A little snippet from Buster Olney's blog:

but here's something that neither the Cubs nor Prior is saying but all of them know: If the Orioles had been willing to swap Miguel Tejada for Prior straight up -- 1 for 1 -- the Cubs would have jumped at the deal.

Don't know if that's his opinion or if this is what he heard. Still a scary thought.

Hendry said last night during one of the broadcast portions that "Mark Prior was not going to be traded for Miguel Tejada." You can still interpret that 98 different ways, but that's what he said.

He went on to say that there was never a deal on the table; that there was never a time in which front office types were waiting on an owner's approval or choice between two deals; and that just because a team asks about a player does not mean a player is being shopped.
