I have been one of Hendry's harshest critics this offseason. However, I will say this: He has drastically changed the team from the version in 05. I applaud the effort but the results have been much less then I expected.

I don't applaud the effort. I don't mean that I think he's slacked off, I just think he completely misread the team and the offseason and therefore didn't make the necessary effort to improve. He basically tinkered. I don't think he drastically changed anything. They're still a free swinging ballclub with no OBP. They still have a horrible outfield. Neifi is still likely to play way too much. It's not just the results. They apparantly didn't see the flaws because they didn't come close to fixing them.

We have enough to line up and have a starting lineup.

That is so like the Cubs under Andy MacPhail, lowered expectations. It's just a variation of the "We're trying to build a team that can compete within the division" line that is exactly why this team has never come close to greatness. Strive low, so it's easier to achieve your goals.

wow, for everyone saying how patterson's career started downhill in 2004, compare his #'s that year to jacque jones' in 2005.

Those numbers got Jones his deal. Too bad I think there's about a snowball's chance in Pasadena of him repeating them.

There were quite a few of us who thought it made more sense to just give Corey RF rather than waste money on Jones - MUCH LESS ON A 3 YEAR DEAL!!!

It remains to be seen what Jones will do in the coming season, but I personally think it was a poor alocation of $.

Dance with who brought ya.

There is nothing to applaud about this offseason. It is a trainwreck that has been three years in the making. Its a confluence of misidentification of needs, misapplication of resources, and misevaluation of talent. Further, it is a product, in large part, of an excruciatingly lacking in foresight regarding the availability of FAs and the preparedness of the farm system.

Yeah, if Jones goes back to those numbers I'll dance a jig and I bet even Hendry's jaw will hit the ground.

I'm still in the "denial" stage right now. So if you could, I would appreciate you refraining from that kind of hurtful post.

Agreed. The ambition and direction that seemed to be in place in 2003 is now gone.

I am not really unhappy about the Jacque Jones signing - just can't believe Hendry sunk $16 million into him. Regardless, this team still needs a #5 hitter.

When Aramis goes down with his "Stretch-run Hammy," this team is going to be hurting. Better hope Murton is a 20-30 HR rookie....
