I am still assuming that Hendry is working the phone daily to dump Corey and Todd.

Any new trade ideas for the new year on how Hendry could move those guys?

Could Corey fit in Boston, Seattle, or Baltimore?

How about Todd in Toronto, Texas, Seattle or the Mets?

Let's see:

Walker for Wells, Adams and Hill and Patterson for Manny. :D

I think it's looking more and more like it's so blatantly obvious the Cubs HAVE to get rid of the two of them that they won't get anything close to market value on each. (Not that Corey has much market value.) I think we need to realistically look at the possibility that Corey and Todd will net us a PTBNL/middling pospect and a backup outfielder-type (think Gary Matthews, Jr.-ish), respectively.

Edit: Toward the start of spring training we may be lucky to get that on Patterson without having to pay some of his salary. What is it for this year, again?

If that's all you're going to get, you should keep them. That won't happen though.

I think Corey is going to be somewhere between 3-4 million, no? I can't remember right now.

We're not going to get a quality everyday player for Corey. What we do need is a true 4th outfielder, i.e. someone who could play everyday for a while if someone gets hurt, and not wreck the season in the process. There has to be somebody out there who fits that description.

I wonder if since Hendry is probably not going to get Tejada if he is just going to give away Patterson or Walker. I see one of those guys getting traded for some "Projectable toolsy" player to fill in at Iowa.

I don't see a move that would involve Walker that improves the team, so I'm very inclined to hold on to him.

At this point, I'm worried about what effect retaining him could have on the clubhouse. I have to think that the other players will be angry watching an obviously inferior player start at 2B instead of Walker. (I've given up any hope that the Cubs will, you know, actually play their best 2B at 2B)

If I could get Mench for Corey and Walker I'd probably do it even if I think the Cubs are giving up too much for him.

I have no problem throwing Corey away for peanuts. He's going to make 3 million and there's much doubt as to whether he'll bring any value to the team.

Walker, on the other hand, should only be traded if the net gain improves the team. As it looks, that market doesn't exist and Walker is better than our other secondbase options. I can't find a decent rationale for trading him. If we could deal Walker and Patterson for Luis Gonzalez and cash without having to gurantee the option for 2007, then I might be ok with such a deal.

If we could deal Walker for Jose Cruz Jr (which we can't), I could live with that as well.

But as it looks, I don't see any reason to trade Walker for spare parts.

What I wonder about is what if Walker starts? Does Johnny B bat him 5th and Jones 2nd? Not that Baker would do something like that.

What if the Cubs will take back Kaz Matsui, could we trade Walker to the Mets for Diaz + Matsui and some cash?

Do you really think the Mets would deal Diaz for Walker? Does Omar covet Walker that much?

With departure of Macias, The Cubs have 3 MI (Cedeno, Perez and Hairston) if they move Walker. Would they promote Fontenot or Theriot to the ML bench or would they need another SS/ 2nd in any deal for Patterson or Walker? It seems to me that if they trade Walker we're going to really hate seeing Perez/ Hairston or Jones batting 2nd.

I'd love to know what it is that Walker does that makes teams run him out of town with such regularity.

I have no idea. I guess it depends on how badly he wants to get rid of Matsui.

At this point, I would hold on to Walker, even though I'm not a big fan of his.

As far as places that Walker might fit, San Francisco could use him as a first baseman. Right now, they have the awful-against-RHP Lance Niekro penciled in there.

A Walker-Niekro platoon would give them decent production.

No way would they call up Fontenot or Theriot when the Enrique Wilsons are out there to be signed.

Speak his mind about what is really going on.

I really doubt it, but they do want to get rid of Kaz. And the OF is still somewhat cluttered. I could see them dealing Diaz if they end up with Manny, or I could see them dealing him if they could get some pitching in return. Diaz had somewhat of a disappointing season in 2005. He was sent down for a month and a half, and didn't do any better upon his return. In the NY media and many fans eyes, he is way down the ladder in terms of importance to the team, with an obvious fixation on bigger names. Reyes and Wright are the focus as far as youth in concerned, while Delgado, Beltran and Floyd are the big bats they are counting on to complement the youth.

If you took back Matsui, and gave them a 2B they could count on for the season, then I think you could start talking about Diaz if you threw something else into the mix. They like him, but they aren't in love with him.

I don't see the Cubs as being interested in Matsui in any way. They are trying to move Walker to help clear out room at that spot so I'd really doubt they would want an overpayed guy to take his place.

Interesting info on Diaz. If the Mets don't get Manny would they still have any urge to still move Diaz?

I'd probably do Walk and CPatt for Matsui and Diaz, plus cash. Two guys get the change of scenery they need and the other two (Walk and Diaz) is a swap of vet. value for young potential. Diaz will only be 24. Problem is that you will have a log jam in the OF.
