Getting past first base by yourself. ALL extra base hits make up a player's power, and Wilson is very good at hitting for it, even if you only consider HR.

That makes up IsoP, which is more or less a meaningless statistic. If Juan Pierre had 75 doubles and 30 triples next season, that does not mean he hits with power. Having power, in the purest baseball sense, is the ability to hit a home run.

At best, Craig Wilson is a poor mans Geoff Jenkins. With the exception that Jenkins is a better defensive outfielder and can actually hit the ball during the day. Craig can't exactly say that.

One of these is Geoff Jenkins, the other is Craig Wilson. Craig can't hit the ball during the day? .274/.380/.505/.885 the past three years, just as good as Jenkins's .294/.366/.527/.893 over that time frame.

IsoP is not a meaningless statistic at all. IsoP is very very predictive. It remains much more constant than other offensive metrics, because it excludes the variation in average caused by BABIP. Juan Pierre would have hit for power if he put up that line, but he won't, because as he has proven(with the IsoP to back it up) he can't.

My bad on the day stats for Craig, I looked at last years only... .217 (he was hurt most of the year)

Geoff Jenkins is a very streaky hitter, someone who looks lost at the plate for 9 strait at bats, then goes 4-4 the next day. Craig Wilson is exactly that, someone we don't need in the outfield. (I am not defending J.Jones in this conversation)

So what's his status, is he arbitration eligible? (Wilson)

I don't know much about him, but the numbers look good. Why would Pittsburgh not want him back?

Wilson's arbitration eligible, I think 2nd year. There have been newspaper quotes that Wilson doesn't fit in with "Tracyball", which is apparently what Jim Tracy wants to do with the club.

Third time arb eligible.

Last year Craig Wilson had back to back 0-fers three times in around 60 games. Derrek Lee had 7 in 158 games last year. That's a pretty baseless and ultimately inconsequential reason not to want Wilson to shore up our joke of an OF.

Craig Wilson shouldn't have back to back 0-fers, he is not a power hitter.

Considering the outfield we have and the options available for upgrading it, Wilson would make a nice choice. He and Murton could split time in left and both could play and Jones sit anytime we faced a lefthander. Wilson also could give Lee an occasional rest at first if needed.

This is getting out of hand. Yes, Craig Wilson is a power hitter, a pretty good one at that. And whether you are a power hitter or not, saying you shouldn't have back to back 0-fers is ridiculous. In his best season ever, Juan Pierre had 5 back to back 0-fers, two of those lasting 3 days.

Ok, I give... sign him up as another outfielder.

Our outfield as it stands...

Peirre

Jones

Murton

Mabry

Patterson

Hairston

Eh, you still got a sweet ride their Chessekopf.

wanna buy it?

I'd consider it, if I wasn't going to Deutschland for the next few years. How many miles?

Deutschland...sweet!

79K, completely customized and a stinkin' rocket to drive!

More than likely I will keep it as a weekend/track car. I look to take ownership of a Lotus Elise this summer :)

Lotus elise? AWESOME! That TT would be a badass track car. You drive any of the tracks round Chicago?

It is an amazing track car. It handles like it's on rails. Stock suspension seems horrible compared to the aftermarket setup it currently sits on. There is a great track near Joliet for AutoX I plan on being at next year. Along with Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI.

However, the Elise should be the ultimate autoX/track car! Don't get me excited, it's only January :)

Road America is fantastic. I love going up there. I saw whatever series the RS6s race in, maaan, totally sweet

Remind me to remind you how sweet the Elise is in, say 2 months?

Sure, remind me...however, this looks me in the eye everyday when I get to my office :)

Insight into why the Orioles lost out on Burnitz:

NY Times

Last week, Burnitz agreed to a two-year, $12 million contract with the Orioles. But today he is scheduled to take a physical for the Pittsburgh Pirates, who have guaranteed him $6.7 million for one year and have added a mutual option for a second year that would make the deal worth $12 million for two years.

Burnitz's agent, Howard Simon, said he and his client changed direction because of the language about the physical that the Orioles included in the letter of agreement they sent to Simon. The language, Simon said, left too much room for the Orioles to take a lot of time before completing the contract and then possibly reject Burnitz.

That's a new one...

The addition of Burnitz could make Jody Gerut and Craig Wilson expendable. Both players were expected to platoon in right field for the Pirates in 2006 if the team was unable to land a more experienced power hitter this offseason.

Question of the day: Who will Burnitz enter into serious talks with next?

Japan. This is pretty funny and I wonder if it's money or him possibly being platooned is what's dragging these deals.
