I didn't know ESPN had the rights to Vasquez... :P

Seriously, Hernandez was a top of the trash heap pick-up for the Sox, and now suddenly he nets Vasquez?

Top, top prospect CF Chris Young is the key to this deal.

Fine trade for Arizona.

May be Young will pan out and may be he won't, but the Sox traded from a position of strength (or at least depth) to once again upgrade their rotation with a proven SP who is, at worst, a no. 2 in any rotation in the game. I think the Sox done good. This also allows Williams to spin off one of the other SPs to improve his offense.

One thing is for certain. The WSox are trying to repeat. They look far better off than we do.

If he's considered to be a number 2 starter in any rotation, then so does Maddux. Since Maddux outpreformed him in almost every category over the last 2 years.

He had a terrible second half in NY and picthed in a launching pad in AZ last year. IMO, its an abberation and he is still a very good pitcher.

Agreed. And I really appreciate Williams' decisivness - make the deal for the guy you target and don't screw around.

Yeah, I don't know how or why Vazquez pitched so bad for the Yanks and at times for the DBacks. His velocity was never down and he has nasty stuff. The talent is still there no doubt.

And now he's going to one of the top homerun parks in the AL, so his numbers are not likely to improve. I will say this for Kenny Williams, he's not afraid to pull the trigger on a deal.

Peculiar that he was even worse AWAY from the BOB last season.

No. 2 starter on any team? So he's better than 2 of Wood, Prior, and Zambrano? ok. enough Vazquez love.

He was a decent pick up, but no need to go crazy with the Williams love b/c of it. Williams is destroying the ChiSox future with his love for parting with top prospects. That's fine with me. We'll have to deal with them being good for a maximum of 4-5 years and then his decisions will take their toll.

The point is that his value far exceeds Hernandez's and Young is a completely unproven commodity. Williams made a(nother) decisive move that has improved his team in measurale way, and has put him in a position to beat the Cubs for Tejada.

And whither Jim Hendry?

It's amazing how much my opinion of KW has changed in 2 years. I like the fact that he's aggressive, gets his guys, and isn't afraid to deal away unproven for proven.

Would you guys be ok with trading Pie+Rusch for Vazquez? I dont think I would, and that's what this trade looks like to me.

At one time, Vazquez COULD have been one of the better #2's in the game. I think the workload he's been put through has taken quite a toll on his throwing arm over the years.

Whether he can get back to being that good #2 again is debatable.

Sidenote: If Chris Young was the minor leaguer included in the deal, I guess Arizona won't be having much interest in Corey anymore.

Depends on how well Vazquez can play RF. :D

The only thing about giving away Chris Young is they have two other top prospects at the CF position. No, I would personally not do it but it does strengthen their rotation and he did trade from depth.

If we had 2 or 3 Pie's, and had already won a title, then yeah.

Young is good, but the Sox have two or three real good OF prospects. Duque is crap anyway, too, and Vasquez could bounce back into form.

Besides, my newfound respect for KW comes from a general view of his moves and decisions, not just this one move.
