One significant point here that was mentioned but not emphasized is that Jon Stockstill is the Orioles new assistant GM. Not only does he know the Cubs players real well, but obviously has a terrific relationship with Hendry and the Cubs. This should make it a lot easier for the two teams to make a trade.

It's entirely un-Cubs fan-like, but for some reason I'm very optimistic that we will land Tejada in another typical Hendry fleecing.

Mora too please, thanks. Can he play RF?

my opinion of these offers

Mets - I don't know if that is a better deal than the Cubs, and I wouldn't do it if I were the O's. Reyes is still a question mark in both injury and production and Benson sucks

Agreed. The Orioles would DEMAND Milledge and Seo also in the deal. Don't know if Minyaya would do tho.

Blue Jays - would the Jays be able to take on Tejeda's contract? and what use would they have for two crappy pitchers like Batista and Lilly? and what use would they have for Hudson?

No. Even tho they've sign prolly the two most overrated picthers on the markets, they are getting awfully close to the budget limited---which i heard is about $75 million. So I believe the Blue Jays are not really a match. Besides that have Aaron Hill and Russ Adams who are both natural SS, and cheaper. The Blue Jays would have to offer Adams/Hill, Dustin McGowan, and prolly another prospect. Don't think they will go overbudget for Tejada, thus they are not really a fit for the Orioles.

Angels - an interesting proposal, but I don't know if the Angels would do that. they're already lost Byrd and will lose Washburn. that leaves Colon and Santana, and noone to replace their best setup man. come to think of it, no chance the Angels do that trade. maybe Cabrerra and some prospects?

Try Kendrick/Aybar/Wood (one of the three) prolly Shields, and Kotchman. The Angels COULD feesibly make a strong run at Tejada, but wouldn't that go against Tejada's wish of "staying on the East Coast?" Not that he has a choice, but he may not be happy about going back to Cali. Atleast the Cubs would still be NEAR the EC.

D-Backs - if I am not mistaken, someone said that Baltimore is one of the places Vazquez refuses to be traded to and they won't give up Tracy. to cheap for the production to give up.

They don't have the money to make the deal.

Padres - Roberts sucks, so the trade is Eaton and Greene. Eaton is average at best, so the trade is Greene. O's won't do it.

The Padres barely re-sign Hoffman/Giles, so I don't think they trade a very solid productive SS (who is cheap) for a player making almost 10 times as much. Granted Tejada would give the West to the Padres, but I don't see Towers doing that trade.

ReSox - Arroyo sucks, and Angelo probably won't take on Manny's contract.

And the fact that the Orioles are in no hurry to trade Tejada within the division. Boston is not a feesible destination, unless they get a 3rd team into the deal.

I don't doubt that other teams can outbid some of the packages that the Cubs could offer, but the above five are not good examples.

It isn't so much the talent package, but it the combination of the talent, contender status, and the money (assuming after he is dealt, he would have the right to demand a trade after 2006) needed to re-sign Tejada after he choose to use his "right to demand a trade."

I wish I could share your optimism, but I'm not gonna get my hopes up on this unless there's some real news being reported of actual contact. I would love Hendry to fleece the Orioles by possibly keeping Pie, but for someone like Tejada, I dont see that happening.

Who would the Cubs have that Baltimore would want? Certainly they're not just going to ask for prospects, they're going to want starting players in exchange for him. This isn't the Marlins we're talking about.

They are not any closer to competing in that div. than the Fish are.

Hill, Williams, Cedeno and a Single A prospect for Miggy and a bit of cash, please.

While it's true they are as close to competing as the fish are, it isn't Angelos style to rebuild... particularly with Lopez, Hernandez, and Mora as his top bats. But, the package you propose isn't just prospects since Hill, Williams, and Cedeno are major league ready players. So, the O's just might bite on it.

How 'bout Hairston, Fontenot & a player to be retired later for Tejada and a suitcase full of twenties ???

Only if they are non-sequential.

I believe he has played LF before so I can assume he could play right. I can't imagine Hendry being able to land both. If he did (without selling the farm) I might just have to worship him.

lot's of requests for Mora, but how about looking into the Orioles actual right fielder? no, not that one, what about Jay Gibbons? he's not ideal right field production, but you don't need ideal right field production with Tejada at short. I think he's one year from FA, so not a long term gamble and someone else the O's might want to see who they can sell off. not the obp that everyone likes, but still decent production for what he will cost.

Because if I could choose between Mora and Gibbons it's an easy choice.

yeah, never mind that Mora is 5 years older, more expensive, as injury prone as a player gets, had a worse OPS than Gibbons, and is more expensive.

but hey, he had two fabulous years out of nowhere after taking 8 years in the minors to reach the big leagues. he's bound to get back to the .900 OPS of 2003 and 2004, now isn't he.

don't get me wrong, I like Mora as a player, but don't be so dismissive. he will never return to the form he showed in 2003-2004.
