I'm sure the omnipotent FoxSports will be revising their Cards grade seeing as they have signed Deivi Cruz but failed to get AJB.

It's not fair to only like at the amount per year when evaluating a contract. The number of years matters a lot too. I'd much rather have Furcal for 3/39 than what the Cubs were offering at 5/50 or whatever. Pay a little more now, but get out of the deal before he starts seriously declining. It makes a lot of sense.

It makes some sense, but neither 5/50 or 3/39 makes any real amount of sense. Both deals were terrible, and Hendry was lucky his wasn't accepted.

You are right though, I'd rather get out of the deal sooner if at all possible.

Mr Perry,

What you've just written is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent article were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on the internet is now dumber for having read it. I award you an F- for your efforts, and may God have mercy on your soul.

He's making Tejada money! He's worth maybe half of what Tejada makes. They may as well be paying him for 6 but only playing him for 3, so he's not declining on their roster. Had Furcal gotten a contract commensurate with his abilities (i.e. if there were any other bonafide FA shortstops on the market this year), they could just cut him if he starts to decline after 3 and be in the same position they are in now. I don't see how overpaying him by as much as 40% makes sense, unless you are suggesting their organization is on about the same level of the Tigers, so that is the premium you have to pay to get players to go there now.

I don't know if someone posted this, but he also said this in talking about the Braves offseason:

Furcal went cheap to L.A., which raises the matter of how earnestly the Braves tried to keep him. He'll be hard to replace.

Are you kidding me?

There are so many chuckles in this story, it's funny.

I don't know what's worse, the comments, the timing of the story (handing out grades in the middle of the offseason), or the grade itself, because with the moves or nonmoves made so far, I would have given them an "F".

Whats funny is they gave teams like the Diamondbacks a C because they "havent done anything yet", which is exactly why its stupid to make an article grading teams on the offseason so far.

There is only one SS in baseball with a higher salary than Furcal. Furcal is talented, but clearly not the 2nd best SS in baseball (nor is Jeter the best at his salary). There is no way possible to claim the Dodgers got him at or under market value.

TECHNICALLY, Furcal is the 3rd highest SS in baseball behind Jeter (and come on...ARod ain't a 3rd baseman, he is a SS).

And how is anybody surpise that a WRITER for FOXSPORTS (key word Fox) wrote a favorable grade for the DODGERS? That's would be like Phil Rogers writing a favorably article (which he is incapable of doint, btw) for the Cubs.

No, "technically" arod is a third baseman. that's what he plays.

Edit: and if you hadn't added "technically" you would have had a case.

I'll wait and see what we can pull off, but if we don't make a couple of big moves this offseason will be a huge failure.

The window on our pitching is closing pretty rapidly, and it would be putting a lot of faith in the Cubs minor league organization to expect them to produce more than a couple average MLB position players, let alone a superstar over the next 4 years.

We can't count on all our pitchers and most of our batters staying healthy all year, or for Prior/Z/Wood to all have career years in order to beat the Cards in the division.
