I wouldn't be surprised. First of all, Colletti is stupid. Remember what he gave up to get Baez early in the year last year, what he gave up to get Lugo at the deadline, and what he was rumored to be willing to give Hendry for Maddux. Kemp isn't with the big league club, and Pierre and Ethier are blocking 2/3rds of the OF for the forseeable future. Murton gives them a RH bat off the bench for their all LH outfield, and a possible replacement for LuGo. Billingsley is a good arm, but he's being used in middle relief, and is behind Broxton and Saito in the bullpen pecking order. They're adding Zambrano so they obviously take that trade-off rotation wise. Obviously an objective evaluation shows that trade isn't worth it, but considering the Dodger situation and Colletti's incompetence, I would call it far from impossible or implausible. I do see your point. I thought that Billingsley would soon take over the 5th starter role but they have Schmidt coming back, moved Tomko to the bullpen and have Kuo as 5th starter now. I would love this trade btw. Billingsley is nasty and Ethier has potential.
