  1. Damn it. I know the Cubs are playing pretty good right now but are they playing good enough to catch the Brewers? I just don't know.
  2. Not really. He has been complete crap so far in the minors. Yeah, that.
  3. So the Cubs are paying 1.5mil of Barrett's remaining salary. WOW http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/cubs.asp
  4. You do realize it's tough to judge NINETEEN YEAR OLD minor leaguers based on stats in Low ball right? Man you are the king of hyperbole. Badger, Nice to see you pop in and add your precious comments to all these threads. That's all you ever do is pop in complain about someones post and leave. You're adding nothing to this thread. The fact is, and get this one right OK Badger..The fact is that your 19 year old prospect is currently terrible. Does that mean he will be always this bad? Who knows but so far it hasn't been great for him. This is the first transaction thread I've posted in in over year buddy. Nice try. But your negativity and general managing expertise is like clockwork, like the sun rising and setting. All I'm saying is to call him abysmal is hyperbole. I don't like this trade either, but lets see what we got first. It's not like he's a 23 year old low ball player. He's 19. There are many 19 year olds who seemed blah who have developed into solid ballplayers. Maybe the change will be good for him. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Dontrelle was a throw-in a low A ball player that you would have said was "abysmal" when he was 19 and how did that turn out? I'm not encouraged by his numbers, but the word abysmal for a 19 year old still developing IS hyperbole. That being said, I agree with you that Hendry sucks. OK Pal, this is the 3rd time you went out of your way to respond to one of my posts in the last month. You must have a problem with me or don't like me that's fine but you love to single me out whenever you have an opportunity to do so. If you have something to say to me just let me know send me a PM and we can discuss further if you like. As far as the player is concerned, yes, he's young and he was drafted through HS but the fact they got rid of them probably means SD didn't highly of him and his numbers are so bad that it is a fact this guy sucks right now. Maybe he just isn't good with a wooden bat.
  5. It's possible, I'm sure we will soon find out. Personally, I'm more interested in seeing what Soto can do.
  6. I didn't get to watch the game but looking at the box score it's good to see Marmol doing so well in the pen. I think our pen has done a much better job as of late and Marmol is one of the reasons why. Howry has done much better too.

  8. I do think it's time to brign Soto up regardless. I would hate to see Blanco be our starting catcher, the guy flat out sucks on offense. I hate to say it but I'd rather have the guy stay on the DL. Bring Soto up and let's see if this guy can be our replacement for Barrett.
  9. Guys, Barrett makes 4.5 mil dollars, I'm almost convinced it will show that the Cubs have given money to the Padres. I doubt it is the other way around considering how much Bowen and the abysmal minor leaguer make.
  10. I've seen the arguments for him spelled out...can you do the same from the other side? 703 career OPS. Cause that .756 career OPS for a terrible defensive catcher is astounding Bowen is also terrible defensive catcher. Really, you're sticking to that huh? Just because he hasn't thrown out baserunners while catching a staff that's notorious for their inability to hold runners? You make generalizations and rush to judgment on things which you aren't very familiar with more than anyone I've seen on this board. Keep ignoring those scouting reports talking about his defensive ability though. Maddux is the only one on that staff that can't hold runners. To throw their pitching staff out as an excuse for his peformance behind the plate is a copout. And as I stated earlier, the San Diego broadcast team and color analysts couldn't wait for this guy to get out of town. And they follow the team on a daily basis. Granted, Barrett had issues here this year but there is no denying that the guys who were traded to us might not give us anything in return. His % to throw runners out is disturbing and the minor leaguer we got in the deal has been abysmal so far. I don't see how anyone could like this trade.
  11. Agreed. they did free up a lot of money and got straight cash in this deal, so ive heard so far, so hopefully it leads to another bat somewhere else I'm not so convinced. There are conflicting reports who is sending the money.
  12. The details are pretty much out man. What exactly is the point of your post? besides knock this board?
  13. no, it's reported that the Padres are giving the cash Not according to the link I posted a minute ago from SD.
  14. At least wait until something official says what the trade actually is before unleashing your venom. This is basically the trade....Barrett and Bowen the main swap. No Linebrink. But that's not the entire trade. We don't know what else is going on. The trade is Barret and cash for Bowen and Kyler Burke. We got jobbed.
  15. http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/weblog/2007/06/padres_get_barrett.html
  16. So not only do we give up Barret but we get a crappy catcher and prospect AND give cash to them! Another work of art from Jimbo.
  17. If we got Linebrink, this is a good deal, if we didn't it's already setting up to be a terrible trade. Per this article: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2910079 It sounds like a terrible trade.
  18. Yup, that's him.
  19. I doubt it. The Cardinals have lost their magic. The lack of talent has finally caught up with them.
  20. Lately, I keep hearing about the Cardinals' magical power turning scrubs into All-Stars but let's face it, this year is different. The lack of talent has finally caught up to them IMO.
  21. I'm fine with Lee getting 5 games. You figure, if he appeals he could get less than that. As far as Young, considering he is a SP it is light, but if he doesn't get paid for those 5 games, well, not much to complain about then.
  22. Perfect example of why teams shouldn't sign aging pitchers to crazy contracts.
