  1. One thing is for certain. I do not see the Cubs going after the top free agents when considering the price and years they will be asking. I think that is a problem.
  2. Secret or not this is a concern to me. It tells me that our GM does not have free reign. He is being micro-managed by his boss.
  3. It's a good thing we have all the grammar scholars here to "mess" with people. I hate that. God forbid a person makes a mistake.
  4. Again, melodramatic. Terrible? It would be terrible if they gave up a lot and picked up the entire contract. But if done right, it could be a decent risk. From 99-03 he played a lot and was very good, among the best at his position. Like Floyd or Bradley he's probably not going to give you 500+ PA in 2006, and he probably won't hit at his peak either. But at 31, I have to believe he's perfectly capable of putting up numbers between his 2005 (.275/.339/.424) and his career average (.302/.364/.467), especially if you get him out of DC, where he was their freaking 3 hitter for some time. Give Vidro 400 PA and Hairston the rest, and you stand a chance of justifying the inevitable trade of Walker for a RF. I suppose if most of the contract will be taken care of by the Nats it's not a bad idea but realistically I just don't see that happening even with Soriano wanting to stay at 2B.
  5. Maybe Marte wasn't offered but I'm sure something was. Who knows what the asking price will be.
  6. Trading for Vidro is a terrible idea. Throughout his career he has had nagging injuries and he usually has a bad second half.
  7. I see Encarnacion/Jones/Wilson out in RF come 2006. Very scary.
  8. I'm just glad we didn't end up with Soriano.
  9. After reading the latest suntimes article the chances of aquiring a proven OF are pretty slim. I'm thinking another idea might be to trade some prospects to another team for an almost-ready mlb OFer.
  10. I'm pretty sure the luxury tax kicks in around 117-120 mil.
  11. Yeah that. Did you guys here Stone on the score today? He said he personally has heard from MacPhail that he will never sign the top free agent and let them go to the other teams and secondly he will never exceed the the yearly payroll to the point where it will hit the luxury tax. Not exactly the type of guy you want running the organization if you ask me. What in the heck is 2-4mil dollars when you resign scrubs like Rusch and Perez to 3mil each? How ridiculous is this.
  12. You have to wonder what exactly the DRays might be asking for Lugo when the Braves had to look at RSox for trading partners. Maybe the Rays asking price is too much.
  13. Man, I wanted Macias gone but now I really feel bad for the guy. I hope he find a job somewhere.
  14. AHHHHHHHH!! This is one of the happiest days of my life!! I'm glad they finally figured out how abysmal Macias was for us. I wish him well.
  15. I really think signing Nomar would be a good thing. Give him a two year deal. He can start at SS and backup ARam as well. I would do it.
  16. Sweeney I think is worth the extra 800k over Mabry although both would be nice and we dont have to get into the Perez and Macias mess.
  17. Considering what the Brew gave up this could be a good move for them.
  18. Patterson is a goner. It's good to see him mention the bench because it probably means Macias is also as good as gone.
  19. Did you gusy hear what Hendry just said? So Neifi might actually be a bench player. If so, this is good news.
  20. Agreed. I would rather have Bradley or look at other options over Floyd. Just say no Hendry.
