  1. Because that would be really stupid. You don't put a guy with a throwing arm that rivals Jonny Damon's in RF. Pierre can't slug, can't throw. His value comes from playing CF. Except for the throwing part, isn't that the Scott Podsednick story that the Cubs are trying so hard to emulate? Pods has a horrible arm as well. I have always liked Podz and maybe that's one reason why I don't mind having Pierre here.
  2. Interesting that you want proven power, but you also say no to a guy with 303 career HR's... The simple fact is Shawn Green hasn't been the same player ever since he has had shoulder problems. The past two years he has been a notorious slow starter so it's not interesting at all.
  3. Say NO to Shawn Green. I think you guys have a point. Now that we have Pierre I would not be opposed to upgrading both OF spots with proven power.
  4. Confirmed. Cool. 2 confirmations and 2 denials. Which is it? Did Juan Pierre get caught stealing 2nd or 3rd 17 times last season, or was he picked off 1st base half of those times? Or, was he caught stealing 17 times and picked off maybe another 3 or 4 times? From what I remember whenever a player is picked off they also add that as caught stealing as well.
  5. So now both Chicago teams have 2 of the fastest players in MLB. I like this move the only knock on Pierre as far as I'm concerned is his weak arm in CF.
  6. To put this in perspective, that's only 4 runs scored behind Furcal and second best among national league leadoff hitters last year. As such, it's hard to fault his runs scored. Except Furcal wasn't hitting ahead of Castillo, Cabrera and Delgado, or an equivalent trio, Furcal played 8 games fewer while amassing 29 fewer plate appearances, and Furcal's effective OBP at .333 wasn't that hot. A good leadoff hitter hitting in front of three fine hitters and playing every single day should score at least 120 runs. If Pierre played in front of ARam and Lee last year 120 runs would have been attainable.
  7. You know what damn the prospects we need to start winning. We needed a leadoff hitter and Hendry got his man. Good move.
  8. Wow, I want to see something done but we shouldn't need three highly rated prospects for a one-year rental from a team selling their team for spare parts. I have no issues parting with Mitre, but I'd only give them Nolaso OR Pinto, not both. Agreed. That is very fair.
  9. You might be able to snatch up better talent for the same package. Hendry put himself in this position and obviously considering the holes the Cubs have that's a given. I'm not opposed to having Pierre here at all. He will improve the team and will be happy if we acquire him. It doesn't mean he is my first option though.
  10. Curious to knwo what his Road/Home splits are. Since coming to Florida his AVG has been 20 or more points worse away from Pro Player, and his OBP and SLG have followed. Do you have his stats at Wrigley? 71 AB .282 .354 Not bad, but a small sample size. Intuitively when he learns to play the Wrigley grass, those numbers would get better. I bet we'd see a .360 + OBP out of him next year, which would mean alot of opportuniiteis for Lee, and Aram to knock him in. Pierre would be a significant upgrade from what we had last year that's for sure.

  12. Curious to knwo what his Road/Home splits are. Since coming to Florida his AVG has been 20 or more points worse away from Pro Player, and his OBP and SLG have followed. Didn't he come from the Rockies?
  13. Couldn't we get Pierre for Center and Obtain Bradley for RF. He can play right if i'm not mistaken. Get Lugo for SS move Cedeno/Walker to 2nd and call it a day. Personally, I wouldn't mind that one bit.
  14. I don't care about Pierre's SLG% as much as other do, but if his OPB is below .360 next year then we overpaid. That's a tough call for a guy with a career .355 OBP Although, he's eclipsed that mark 3 times in his career, including 2003. Fine, .350. But you get my point :D . He should rebound somewhat from 2005, so it depends on how high the rebound will be, and what effect the Wrigley grass will have on his game. Curious to knwo what his Road/Home splits are.
  15. What players are you speaking of, on the trade block, that'll bite at an offer of Nolasco/Pinto? Give that offer to Philly and you'll likely have Jason Michaels. Yes, Michaels is better than Pierre. I've seen Michaels' numbers and they are impressive but he hasn't played full time as far as I can remember. Truthfully I don't know much about the guy. Philly platooned him with Lofton last year and they platoon him while Marlon Byrd became a bust based on huge potential. He keeps chugging along and producing. Give him 145 starts and he'll probably be the best leadoff hitter in the NL. Sounds very interesting.

  17. It actually wasn't the entire article but I get your point. Main points... 1) Mark Prior for Bobby Abreu. Will not happen. 2) "the only pitchers the Cubs are interested in trading are relievers or prospects. " 3) "minimal interest in Aubrey Huff to fill their right-field vacancy" 4) another quote - According to one team that inquired about Pie, the Cubs "don't have very many untouchables -- but he's one." I don't know how the Cubs can hope for a good OF bat w\o moving Pie but we shall see. Would you believe you could trade: Hundley Hawkins A.Gone Brendan Harris/Francis Beltran Bobby Hill Choi And get significant to all star production back for many of them? Hendry has a good track record of trading. But none of those players were the quality of Abreu at the time of the deal. Lee and Ramirez had still just shown glimpses of what they've become. Nomar was an injury problem with 2 months left on his contract. Karros and Grudz were bad, and I sure hope Hendry isn't targeting players of that caliber. I don't see an Abreu or Dunn deal happening without dealing Pie and/or Hill. But I agree that the Cubs could easily get guys like Wilkerson, Bradley, and other names that have been mentioned. WHAT!?! The most impressive off all of his trades: Hundley for Grudz and Karros and CASH!?! Karros and Grudz were bad? From what I remember, Grudz was surprisingly good, and Karros was mildly effective when used in a platoon. I mean, the trade was an absolute flecing all on its own, but Hendry had to rub it in and get cash with the deal. I still can't believe it. The day it was made I laugh/cried myself to sleep. Also, didn't we net Murton in the trade that got us Nomar? Every single trade that Hendry has made has been gold, unless there is one that I'm forgetting. ...now, just about every single signing that Hendry has made has been abysmal. I agree with you almost completely though there were a FEW bad trades - namely only when the player was devalued by the Cubs first Sosa Farnsworth Cruz And then the Alfonseca/Clement deal but no one knew Willis would be an absolute stud, he was an afterthought. You can also add Bear Bay for Bartosh to that list. And getting Murton in the Nomar deal is what makes it better because Nomar didn't do squat for the Cubs. Overall, Hendry's trades have been pretty damn good.
  18. I would rather have Bradley in CF but if Hendry did trade for Pierre it would be taking a step in the right direction, so I'm not opposed to it. Pierre would improve this team.
  19. If the A's are offering Zito for Bradley, what should Hendry offer? That was one rumor. The other and more prominent rumor was for Mario Ramos and Saarloos. IF we are giving up two pretty good prospects I would rather have Bradley. Saarloos is pretty good? Huh. News to me. I never said he was good.

  21. Wow, that seams like a lot of talent for Pierre who will probably be here for 1 year. Hendry is set on getting a leadoff man. I would prefer Bradley over Pierre though.
  22. I would rather keep Cedeno at SS and Walker at 2B to be honest. How much more does Renteria give you over Cedeno? What made Furcal such a good option was his speed and the fact that he can leadoff.
  23. I sure hope they what they have with their new GM. I personally though going after Furcal was ?able considering they have Izturis.
