  1. Who appoints the manager? Exactly, you can't blame Dusty for the way things have gone, without looking at why is there. If Hendry had fired Dusty after the season, I would not have the same feeling I have towards in right now. I'm NOT getting into this argument, but I will say that while Baker was hardly impressive last year - his main problem was just pitching management. Losing Prior and Wood to injuries, and Corey imploding upon himself like the sun - that's what made us lose. He got signed to a three year deal, let him finish it. If we suck this year, can him. Hard to blame him for last year though. Bobby Cox himself couldn't help Hollandsworth either if you noticed. In all fairness to Dusty he didn't have much to work with thanks in part to Hendry but at the same time he did not properly use what he did have to work with either.

  3. You guys can't be serious. Honestly. You can't be serious. What exactly did you like about 2004 and 2005 that has made you so optimistic about 2006? I suppose the debacle in the clubhouse in 2004 was pretty fun, or maybe the remarkable 4th place finish in the division in 2005. Boy, those were treats for everybody.
  4. It's more than tiresome, I can't stand it. Some people have the memory of a goldfish, and have the art of knee-jerk reactions mastered. And exactly what kind of memory do you have? I find some of these optimistic posts more tiresome and less realistic than others.
  5. The Cubs do not deserve the benefit of the doubt. So you are saying these past 3 years have been the best in a long time? I don't think so. I will give you 2003 but if anything 2004 and 2005 have been very dissapointing. Last year we were 4th place in the division. To me that doesn't signal a very good team. The Cubs as of now already have missed out on players who would've made a difference. Hendry upgraded the bullpen and even though you can make a case that he overpaid for unproven pitchers I will applaud him for that because our bullpen was one of our weakness. We still haven't done anything on the offensive side. Sure, Hendry has made some nice trades in the past but what has he done lately? In my eyes not enough to get us back into the playoffs. I know it's still early but I am not going to give the Cubs the benefit of the doubt until I start to see some results. People were saying last offseason it was early well that didn't work out so well. He also signed Rusch and Perez who in my opinion were terrible signings. Rusch to me is redundant and Perez is going to block Cedeno from playing because of the abysmal manager we currently have.
  6. In all fairness though Levine is at the meetings and has more contacts than us. All of these guys probably talk to Hendry once out there as well as hear the local buzz so at least we get to hear something.
  7. I think Baker and Bradley could form a good relationship. Maybe just maybe Bradley come shere adn if he does I'll be ecstatic.
  8. I don't understand why the Padres are so set on trading Loretta especially for David Wells who is 40.
  9. Thank you Toronto for taking away Burnett from the Cards.
  10. Furcal left because he got $13 freakin million dollars a year from the stupid Dodgers. Can't blame Hendry for that. You can get Pujols for a million more a year. Exactly. Jim looked at himself in the mirror and said, " I am really going to pay Furcal more than Tejada gets?!!!" Hey, you guys bring up great points. 13mil for Furcal is crazy but at the same time a 10mil per with a good amount of signing bonus might get him. We're the ones that have a need at leadoff and have 20 mil to spend. So use up 5mil for a signing bonus give him 10 per and there's a good chance he comes here. Are we trying to improve this team or are we already setting limits on what we can or cannot do? Now we are at other team's mercy hoping they trade their guys to us.
  11. No mention of 2B during this interview.
  12. Yes, good job. 4/36 is still too much for Furcal. Give me Ronny and pray for a major RF upgrade... I hve no problem with Cedeno at SS but that's not going to happen with Dusty. It's more like no Furcal then it's going to be Neifi. And no, 4/36 is not much for Furcal.
  13. The Cubs offer to Furcal was 4 year 36 with an easy incentive for 5th and then we wonder why Furcal left. Good job Hendry.
  14. Well, getting any of these players is going to be tough IMO. I am really surprised we didn't even offer Furcal 10mil.
  15. Levine said Furcal contract was 5/47 but to get the 5th he had to play at least 200 games first two years. So Hendry didnt even offer 10mil to him. Cubs have face to face meetings with Marlins for Pierre today. Will take 2-3 minor league pitchers. 8 teams in Pierre mix. WSox might get into the mix if they can easily match the deal. WSox looking to sign Mueller or Graffinino and looking to trade Damaso Marte, but will look for another lefty reliever. Cubs will not get involved in Damon. They are looking for young players or one year deal because they feel Pie will beready in 1 year. Two scenarios for OF. They like Wilkerson, possibly Ryan Church. Will talk to Reds about Dunn or Kearns as a 3way trade to get Wilkerson possibly. GM Meetings one day shorter than in the past. Hendry had 8-9 meetings yesterday have 7-8 today. Action end of the week or early next week. Cubs like Bradley had talks with Dodgers. Small possibility Cubs have no interest in Soriano because he won't play the OF. Looking at Preston Wilson as well Hendry said Prior and Z not going anywhere and Abreu or Burrell might be traded but the Cubs will approach if no other options left.
  16. He's coming up in a couple of minutes. Just in case you want to hear. http://espnradio1000.com/listenlive.asp
  17. We need to upgrade badly. Offer more if necessary.
  18. Are you serious? Hendry is a damn fool!!! On top of the fact that we didnt offer any prospects Hendry is offering Walker to free up 2B for Neifi!!! YOu have go to be kidding me!! This organization is pathetic! All reports were under the pretense of Hendry signing Furcal and moving cedeno over to second. And you believe Cedeno will be moved to 2B when we have the great Neifi here and Cedeno hasn't played a lick of 2B during winter. I'm not giving anybody the benefit of the doubt anymore.
  19. I personally thought it would have taken a 5/50 with 5mil signing bonus to get Furcal. If that offer was on the table there could have been a good chance he comes here. So what you are saying is that Hendry didn't pursue Giles and Burnett because they were not serious about us? Come on. I think the grad is inline with hos "so far" the offseason has been going for the Cubs.
  20. Is anyone else scared that Hendry will refuse to pay the price these teams are asking and end up having to sign Preston Wilson and Juan Encarncion or end up giving Pie for Pierre because there will be no other options? Scared? I'm resigned to it happening! Hendry needs to make a move soon because things aren't looking too good right now. He might have to overpay for one of these guys just to lock one up. I would say at this point we will have to overpay to make these trades. I think our farm will take a hit no doubt but at the same time we don't have anymore options.

  22. They also say we're pursuing Luis Gonzalez. Good thing mlbtraderumors is never accurate.
  23. A's are getting prepared for a playoff push while the Cubs are preparing for 5th place in the division. Honestly are you just going to say the exact same thing in every post? For crying out loud it's December 5th and the first day of the winter meetings. It's not like he hasn't been talking to anyone. Multiple sources have reported interest/talks for Pierre, Wilkerson, Bradley, Lugo, Huff, Kearns, Dunn through trades. How about we at least let the next couple of days play out before proclaiming that Jim is doing nothing but sitting on his butt. Good Lord. Not much hope anymore. Actually, I think Hendry is talking on the phone but nobody wants to make a deal with him. He missed out on Furcal. Bradley is gone now. Giles is gone. The players available are diminishing and the Cubs' offense as it stands right now has several holes in the lineup and to add the cherry on top it looks as though Neifi might be an everyday starter for this team? There's more hope for misery than there is for success.
  24. Maybe he's afraid to take on a reclamation project. Say what you will about Pierre but he plays most everyday and if Hendry has his way, he's our new CF. On the other hand, Bradley played in 75 games last year. In fact, I was shocked to see that he's never played 150 games in a season (not more that 140 actually with his second highest being 101games). Wilkerson would be nice but I think it's a pipe dream. So you would give up Pie for Pierre as rumored?
