  1. I had no problems with them bringing up Guzman. It's not like Hill is setting up the world on fire either. I would rather have either of those two over awful-Rusch.
  2. Here's his numbers last year for the Rockies: 36G 91AB 14R 30H 2HR 16RBI 13BB 22K 1SB .330AVG .413OBP .473SLG. This is exactly the type of player we need. If the asking price isn't too high we should trade for this guy.
  3. Nobody imagined Pierre to be this bad though.
  4. Very good point. The Nationals and White Sox are licking their chops right now.
  5. It really feels like stuff like this only happen to the Cubs.
  6. The Angels won when they were owned by a corporation. What good does it do to have one owner to blame? true, disney won a title. everything went right for anaheim the year they won it all. i'll bet tho that they have a much better winning percentage w/ moreno as owner. iirc the angels mostly sucked under disney. also, i recall how the dodgers went downhill when fox bought them. First, Goony, I want to appologize. I'm venting, which seems to be common for a Cubs fan these days.  Second, I realize that the Angels won a WS under the Disney company, but as CubfaninCA said, everything went right for them the year they won it all. I also look at the Atlanta Braves, who are owned by Time Warner, and although they appear to be doing well, how much of the team was already a part of the team that Ted Turner owned. I'm not just talking about Chipper or Andruw Jones, but the young guys. How many of them were in the system from Ted Turner's ownership? But really, I'm just venting right now. I dont know when Turner started owning the Braves but they have been good for a long time now, at least since 1995.
  7. Actually I have a huge problem with even offering a first year to Perez. Brian Giles wasn't coming to Chicago. He wasn't going anywhere but San Diego. That ship has sailed. People need to get over that one. In what I would call typical Cub luck, when the finally had the money to spend on big-ticket free agents, there weren't any worth spending the money on. Although, if they had signed Furcal Lee might not be on the DL. Of course everybody would be screaming they should have passed on Furcal and let Cedeno play. Another example of how Hendry lacks forsight to be a good GM.
  8. 2/38? Is that better or worse than his average w/ the bases empty? the 2 must be 2 RBI bases empty (113 AB) .221/.261/.301/.561 runners on (38 AB) .237/.293/.263/.556 RISP (20 AB) .150/.227/.150/.377 RISP 2 out (15 AB) .000/.063/.000/.063 Wow, that is just terrible.
  9. Two things come to mind that Cox does that Dusty doesn't do 1) Play young players. 2) Call out his players when they dog it. My favorite was a few years back when Andruw Jones obviously didn't hustle on a blooper and let it land in front of him for a single. Cox replaced him in the middle of the inning. The first one has much more of an effect on wins and losses IMO, but the second one is something a manager should still do. I think #2 happened last year. That's is the kind of manager we need. I dont care if you are a superstar or not, you need to hustle on any play and that is the managers job to make sure the player does that. Baker only does that to the rookies but he doesn't hold the veterans accountable for jack.
  10. Bynum? Have any of you heard this guy's name before spring training? I sure as heck didn't. Macias part deux.
  11. Tribune owning the Cubs IMO isn't a problem considering our payroll is close to 100mil. What the problem is, is having MacPhail in charge of the Cubs org and giving extensions to people whom do not deserve it.
  12. I wasn't opposed to getting rid of COrey but when it was obvious our decision was to go with Jones I felt as well as others did on this forum that sticking him in RF would have given you the same production.
  13. We had a good amount of money to spend during this offseason and I'm sure most of us had high hopes during that time. Looking back at the moves Hendry made he could have spent the money a lot wiser. Even at the expense of trading our best prospects we needed more offense in the lineup. This did not happen. Even I didn't see Pierre being this bad but maybe last year's numbers he had were signs of things to come. Well, for Cubs fans those signs came to fruition. Nobody expected the Lee injury but even so most of the guys on the team have been playing terrible. That money he gave Rusch and Neifi could've been used to acquire a legit SP. Our bench is still horrible and has been for quite some time. Signing Howry and Eyre have been good moves so far even though I felt at the time they were overpaid (which they are). Really, that's the only thing he did that has been good. I thought we had like 25-30million to spend? What happened? I also can't stand the fact that to him catching the ball is an important category and for him catching the ball and having a plethora of 2B are condusive to each other, or so it seems in Hendry logic. Bottom line, we had another Hendry-like offseason that always ends in dissapointment. If the Cubs organization has any care for their fans and having some sort of respect left they would at the very least can Hendry, Baker and the coaching staff. Enough is enough with these clowns.
  14. NO way am I going to waste any of my time to vote for them like I have done in the past.
  15. Both teams you mentioned replaced their manager and we all know Hendry isn't going to do that.
  16. Come on guys get real. Prior has been doing really well in rehab. He's up to 27 pitches per session and hes progressing well. by the time he throws 80 pitches in a session he will be 56 years old and will be ready to make his debut for us.
  17. Seriously, though what is up with the guy? What a letdown.
  18. Now that's ridiculous. That's something Baker would say. The simple fact is the Cubs fans are pissed because their team sucks. You are asking for a miracle and truth be told you're not going to get it.
  19. By next year we will have single digit picks again.
  20. Hilarious. I totally don't see that happening either.
  21. I totally agree w/ Mariotti. He is on point with this one.
  22. Although MacPhail has probably made money for the Trib and the Cubs managing and selecting GM's hasn't been his strong suit. IMO, he is part of the problem but he would never get fired.
  23. It's time for changes and the first thing that needs to go is the coaching staff. How much more of this can we take?
  24. Agreed, but resigning Baker just makes it even worse.
