  1. Who cares? No matter how much we argue, Neifi will be playing until Nomar gets back. Both sides have side their piece numerous times and we don't need another dragged out game thread because of it. Some people like Neifi, some don't. The board doesn't need another Neifi drama playing out in the game thread.
  2. Being politically correct is my guess.
  3. Bruce Miles coming up next with Bren and Len!!! Give us a holla, Bruce ;)
  4. I remember bemoaning losing him personally when he was taken (foolishly) by Pittsburgh. They'd already had acquired Freddy Sanchez and had Jose Castillo waiting in the wings, which seemed unnecessary. Suffice to say, we took it to the Pirates there and it sucks that Bobby isn't doing well, but them's the baseball breaks..
  5. I dont understand why everyone wants him gone. Yes, he is getting old, and Yes, he can be bad at times. But the man still manages to get us 15+ wins a year, which is more than we can say about any other starter we have on this so called "Staff of Aces." He also makes the rest of the pitching staff better (exe: Mitre, and whoever is young) I'd rather see the Maddux money spent on a guy like Brian Giles who can put up a .400 OBP at the top of the lineup in front of the boppers in the middle. Maddux isn't all that much better (if he is at all) than Mitre, Hill, Williams at this point. Words cannot describe how much I do NOT want that option to vest. Simply a waste of money that could be used on filling another gap (outfield most notably).
  6. Five innings, get the W for Maddux, 3000th K and less IP/Start in hopes the potential of the option vesting lessens.
  7. Meanwhile, he pulled a fast one on Jocketty.
  8. why would you bring in Fassero here? Leave the guy Walker in who is more likely to get a K in this crucial situation (38 K's in 42.2 innings) Silly move, imo.
  9. ARGH! What.....the......hell..........
  10. Debbie Gibson has been incredibly annoying all evening.
  11. Isn't this what Wade Miller had last season?? He's never really recovered from it from a pitching production standpoint.
  12. Why? He won us one game. How many games has he cost us over the last month and a half or so with his horrible play. Add to that the fact that Cedeno is wasting development time while he sits on the bench and gets to pinch hit every couple of weeks. It may be Dusty's fault but it still completely unacceptable. I really think you should go back and see how many games can be directly placed on Perez for losing within that time frame. I'm interested in the results.
  13. Stop telling posters to stop suggesting trades. People are entitled to suggest trades regardless of how likely they are. I was implying to not put out Kerry Wood trade ideas. Thanks for chopping out the sentence preceding that. He knew what you meant, but people put out some crazy ideas on this bd. on a daily basis. Why should only the ones involving Wood be banned/stopped? That's a slippery slope you are creating. if you think its pointless to read about trade ideas involving Wood then don't bother responding or looking at threads that deal with them. IMO, in light of what we have seen with other guys w/ NTCs who want out (Schilling, Unit, Sammy, etc.), anything is possible. Absolutely right, if you don't to read about Kerry Wood trade scenarios, don't read them.
  14. This complete inability to stay healthy is a huge issue, no matter how you slice his abilit. Realistically, how the heck can you count on a guy who either: throws a lot of pitches and thus is removed earlier than he should or you can't count on to give you a strong outing every five days because he can't freaking stay healthy? The ability is there, but someone has gotta get to him how to pitch with his stuff and to prevent this type of garbage from happening. He really helps the team when he goes 3 innings (and sucks while doing so) and then has to leave.
  15. DJaxx, I agree with you about this. There doesn't seem to be much basis for conversation when the thread is inflammatory. However, there's many threads with inflammatory subjects such as: "Buck and McCarver= Cruelest form of torture." And while I agree that they are bad, this offers no objective viewpoint to what (and like I said, I agree with) your stating with: " How is the line drawn on certain topics?
  16. After tonight's game, I'd guess that Ramirez has an edge in OPS vs. Dunn, but I'm curious to see how their OPS-Plus' compare given that Dunn plays half his games in an extreme hitters park. EDIT: I don't think the comparison between Ramirez and Dunn (from a value perspective) is apt considering one has a long term deal and plays a position that is much more difficult to fill with a consistent stick. And who really knows how much of a "value" Dunn will be when he gets signed to a long term deal. Their values are completely different at this stage, two different scenarios that need to be taken into account for the comparison to be accurate.
  17. Prior's performance tonight was one of the better bad pitched games I've seen of him (if that makes sense). He had mediocre stuff all evening and was getting constantly squeezed. He still churned in a very solid effort. That's the marking of a true ace.
  18. Time to stand! It feels great to be confident about ninth innings!
  19. I can't believe some folks on this board were questioning his ability earlier in the year. I was questioning him since he had one more year before he could hit true FA, but he has been absolutely amazing since May. His OPS is approaching .950 (might actually be there since I haven't calculated it, but he came into tonight's game at .936) and 2 HR's, a double, and a walk will certainly help that :D I'm unspeakably glad I was wrong.
  20. deservedly so Do you mean that our rep is deserved or that the part that ZZ initially bolded was deserved (ie performance based)?
  21. This ump is horrid. A hanging curve is not a strike? Good work Will!
  22. Does this ump ever call a strike that isn't right down the middle? Jesus Christ.
  23. If you have Premium you can do it by going into your profile and going to "preferences" and then into reading and cutting sigs off. If you're a regular user, you can't do anything, I believe. I turned sigs and avatars off and the pages load like a charm. and when I turned them back on, Blueheart's slowed mine to a snail's pace as well.
  24. Where the hell is the strike zone tonight? Prior's getting squeezed badly here to Wily O.
