  1. Yes, Corey's OBP is still low, but it has been inching up. It needs to get higher, especially the walks. He was hurt by a really poor April, he walked much more in May and he took a walk yesterday. Hopefully this trend of improvement continues. RBIs? Team stat. I don't care. SBs? He'll have more than 30 if he's healthy all year. He's had some bad luck. Inching is still not enough progress. That OBP has to be around .340 to be even considered acceptable to me. The hype that he gets here , should be willing to want to justify that kind of overall mediocre OBP. Problem is something that he may not be able to correct. People make way too many assumption that just because he's young, that he will improve his plate discipline. I want to SEE something that proves that to be a fact as he works his way through the year.
  2. ? as for the rest, I think a case can be made that overall Patterson is better than any of them right now (excluding Beltran and Edmonds). And he has not even entered his prime yet. Corey has had to learn how to play at the major league level. He was rushed to the bigs after one season of A and one season of AA ball. So what you are seeing is his growth process. Hold it against him if you will. Maybe some people have unrealistic expecatations of Patterson? I don't know. But it is getting to be patheticly ridiculous. What about Andruw Jones who was just thrusted into a major league role at the age of 18? And of the list that OSM provided, here's the three year OPS stats for those guys: 2003 2004 2005 Corey Patterson .840 .772 .753 Brady Clark .733 .782 .882 Milton Bradley .922 .786 .856 Johnny Damon .750 .857 .849 Carlos Beltran .911 .915 .820 Mark Kotsay .727 .829 .741 Aaron Rowand .779 .905 .765 Dave Roberts .676 .716 .800 Jim Edmonds 1.022 1.061 .961 Juan Pierre .734 .781 .643 Andruw Jones .851 .833 .822 Torii Hunter .763 .805 .776 Vernon Wells .909 .809 .738 Brad Wilkerson .844 .872 .812 Craig Monroe .736 .825 .807 Of those guys, Rowand, Andruw Jones, Vernon Wells, Wilkerson, Bradley, they're all in their prime and the latter four have put up better OPS numbers than Patterson. It it is simply inaccurate when people say Corey's on the plateau right below Beltran and Edmonds. His OPS numbers certainly do not indicate that to be true. And if his pitch recognition doesn't increase sometime soon, it will likely stay this way throughout his career. Great SLG with a terrible OBP makes for an average OPS hitter.
  3. Pitched the Royals' only scoreless inning in a 12-8 loss against the Baltimore Orioles. Sisco had 2 walks, didn't K a batter, but still escaped unscathed. JC, continue to gleam :D
  4. I'm loving Dunn walking all the time. In the only fantasy league I'm playing for money in, he's carrying my team's sorry pitch viewing skills. Now I wish he, Tex, Beltre, Mench, and Vernon Wells could drive some damn people in.
  5. Dusty batting Neifi second and batting Hairston eighth. Release your anger. ](*,)
  6. I don't think Carlos is going to be getting all that comfortable in the box. Right, just what we need. Z, trying to exact revenge for Walker (a guy he showed up ON THE FIELD REMEMBER), hitting Lee sending more fury throughout Bob Watston's office on fines and suspensions for Z. Don't think the umps won't be looking for it...
  7. Sporting the Leyden sweatshirt. :) WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LEYDEN BABY!!! Z's a staple at the pizza joint in Franklin Park called "Grand Stand." FP's an awesome place, wonder if Z's got a relative or something that goes there. You all should stop by Grand Stand and wait til Z arrives. Its fun times so I hear. The announcer said that Z is good friends with the baseball coach at Leyden. I may have to go to a game this season when the Cubs are off and see if Z decides to show up then :D. Our pitching coach spent some time in the Seattle Organization as well as playing ball at IU. I'm wondering if that's the coach that Z knows :-k. Edited sidenote: they may have shown Z also because Tom Dore is from Leyden as well. Wasn't watching the game, so don't know if Dore made any kind of mention in regards to his HS alma mater.

  9. If he loses the Beckett Blister Syndrome, you can make a horrible comparison to Kevin Foster for all I care* *since they are both decent hitters
  10. I didn't notice, but there was a post you made one minute after the date rape one in which must have been 5,000
  11. Post 5,000 talking about Adam Dunn not able to succumb to a date rape drug! It just seems appropriate. :D
  12. Eddy Curry will be announced as being done for the year this evening at a press conference at the Berto Center per WSCR's David Schuster. The Bulls are hoping that Eddy will be able to avoid heart surgery   He is still taking medication for the problem.
  13. Brown has Argentinian Carlos Delfino on his roster. I hardly think your analysis is correct.
  14. We showed we could handle them over the course of a game, and all season long, we've played them tough. This team just has so much heart to it and even shooting like pure garbage last night, the defense kept them in that game. They should handle the Millers in the first round, sending him into an unillustrious retirement.
  15. My projected lineup: Hairston Corey Nomar Burnitz Lee Holla Neifi  Blanco  Prior
  16. Now the SCORE is reporting that Dusty has changed the lineup so Hairston is now leading off and playing 2B. Not to fear Perez lovers, he's spelling for Ramirez today because of the "weather". Ugh... I'm all for protecting ARam... but with Blanco and Perez in the lineup, we're in for a longgg day today. Actually a quick one. The faster they get their outs the quicker the game. By the way, I think Blanco will hit a homerun today. Wind is supposedly blowing in at 25 MPH today. :( You have more faith in BLANCOPOWER than I do.
  17. The UC is gonna be INSANE on Monday as these guys are introduced. I'm really amped for a Bulls/Detroit that ultimately means very little in the grand scheme of things. I'm so impressed and proud of the way these guys have played this season. And if Artest comes back, let Noc guard him, I bet Artest goes haywire after a few minutes/
  18. This is borderline obsessive stalking. This is Kent territory for you...
  19. Hopefully its as nice out then as it is today in Chicago. 67 for next Monday when I'm going. In the Bleachers and likely Dumpster pitching :( I'll relay my Dusty criticisms to Holla. "Some dude in Left Field says you should pull me for Dubois."
  20. Your latter statement is a huge reason why I dislike Dusty. He has three world class young arms on the staff and he often abuses them in blowouts when its simply not necessary.
  21. I really agree with Raw here. This thread will have NSBB legendary status by the end of the season. Much to the chagrin, though not shock, of us all. The "Fire Dusty" BandWGN is filling up on BP Ultimate baby....
  22. I don't believe the NBA re-seeds after the first round. I don't really see this team winning more than one playoff series due to lack of experience anyway. The reason you WANT to play the Heat is because then you can see if Eddy Curry has truly graduated in a prime time spot like against Shaq in the playoffs. That series will either greatly ease John Paxson's mind about a long term deal, or make him more wary.
  23. I'd really like to try, but I don't subscribe to BP, aye.
