  1. Please be true... Jones wouldn't be a bad fit in St. Louis. They don't need the same type of player the Cubs do. What kind of players do they need then? Bad players? Are you taking into consideration what kind of player he will become when puts on a red uniform ??? No crap...he signs that contract and I predict a .315 ba/.385 obp season with a power resurgence and possibly a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize.
  2. R U FN Crazy...I thought 5 years for Damon was too much...that contract is crazy talk.
  3. As the thread with Levine in the title was getting more than its (deserved) share of anti Levine banter, I thought I'd start this to have a more centered discussion on what people thought the chance of NY actually not signing him was, and if it happened...what does that do to the FA market....If he goes I think Giles takes his place, so maybe its not as big a hiccup as we might think...who knows...thoughts?
  4. ESPN doesn't have this deal done yet....it likely will...but if it doesn't happen today they've got to waive him per the contract...that would be a nice addition to the free agent market.
  5. Was it midnight last night or is it noon today?
  6. Someone mentioned Macias playing in Left some earlier in the thread...Please tell me we don't still have HIM under contract TOO. I mean...with all the Rule 5 guys we've got coming up we fill roster space with this guy....does Hendry remember from whenst he came? Just 2 short years ago he wasn't earning a spot on colorado's 25 man roster and now he's a 5 million dollar man....Wait till next next year.
  7. Like moorecg I was there, it was so awesome seeing the Stadium go from deafening when Dempster blew the save, to hushed after the slam. I also liked it because I was sitting there in my seat cussing Baker for letting Perez hit with the game on the line...I "knew" he was gonna strike out. :D
  8. Did Dusty Set this up? The options are: 2 Patterson Plays 2 Perez Plays 1 Hollandsworth Play; and 2 Maddux Plays/Moments. I might have to go with the Perez HR just because I was there...but I guess I was also at the game where Hollandsworth stole the HR...I'd just have to think Lee, Ramirez, Barrett...some actual everyday player...had a play worthy of making the list.
  9. What's the Start date?....I miss baseball already.
  10. Down here in the STL I've met: Edmonds: not nice Isringhausen: not nice at all Ray King: Ok Kline: good guy LaRussa: Much nicer than I expected...talked baseball for a while...as I parted he jokingly said "Hope your team has a shitty season"...I returned the favor Jockety: Not as nice.
  11. He used to coach my high school basketball team :D
  12. , so if Jimmy goes au naturel tonight, you'll be there? Deal! Actually, I will try and get down there, but it's all contingent on how much schoolwork I can get done before the game. Sorry to have missed you guys...Flannery's is literally 100 ft or so from my kid's daycare....cool place, lots of tvs....last night was BEEAUTiful
  13. Could someone with photoshop prowess...or someone who has already found one if they are floating around, and i'm sure they are...Would someone please post any mock ups making fun of the cards loss...you know...the "priceless" fake adds...or the successories fakes. I'm not normally this vindictive...but I've got a cards fan buddy who was just going overboard yesterday about how it was fate and they were gonna win it all...I'd like to give him some stuff to read today. thanks in advance.
  14. Yup....its official. I HATE the Cardinals.
  15. As a Cub fan living in St. Louis and having grown up in Central Illinois, I have been and will be rooting for the Astros in the NLCS. At least from what I read in the Houston Chronicle and from what I read some fans say after last year's NLCS, they were able to admit they lost to the better team. If the Cards lose the NLCS, fans and STL media will blame it on umpires and injuries; conveniently forgetting the fact that the Astros have had the best record in baseball since June 1, the Cards have been horrible with RISP, and the Astros bullpen completely shutting down baseball's best offense. I hope the series is over tonight. Yeah....What he said. I'll root for darn near anyone over STL just because I don't want to have to put up with STL fans for the next year...that...and because if they lose it will soon be 25 years since they won a World Series and all their crap about 1908 rings more and more hollow the longer its been since they won one.
  16. I've got no idea...but I'd have to think the Cubs franchise would be worth easily in the top 3 in baseball (Yankees, LA?, Who would be worth more?). I would love to have some random rich guy owner that wanted to be the guy that made the Cubs win...
  17. Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together - mass hysteria. Minus Boston, I'll be rooting for the White Sox in the AL. The concept of having to travel to the East Coast, LA, or the Southeast isn't as positive of an option as just going to the "cell". I have no intentions of going to STL, but would consider it. For purely unadulterated selfish reasons, I want the White Sox to advance for convenience more than anything else. In the NL, I'm rooting for ATL to win the NL and then win it all. Well...I was just there and STL looked good enough to get there...although their bullpen may leave enough to be desired that HOU could get past them....I don't like Houston but seeing the Stros get past the birds would be alright by me...the pads sure aren't going to do it.
  18. I'm in for buying a brick....lets to an NSBB auction..
  19. Today is the Padres chance. A red hot Peavy vs. a slumping Carpenter. If the Pads lose today, I call the sweep (as they have Pedro frigging Astacio going in Game 2) That's what I'm scared of...I'm getting ready to go right now...if Peavey wins there is a good chance for the Pads...Mulder has been awful during the day and he's set for game 2...Morris hasn't won a game in over a month and he's set for game 3....if they pull this one off it could be a good post season after all.
  20. No body considers Washburn a viable option? He does throw with his left hand...is young enough to be good for several years and had a decent year...not a bad option considering our needs.
  21. I'm headed to the STL/SD game tomorrow...Hoping carpenter craps out...I think this one will be a good game, but if the Birds win then the series is close to over...(although Mulder has sucked during day games...so there is always hope for Thursday as well)
  22. Thanks for the link...but I guess I missed the discussion of Krasnitz..except for the comment about the someone just wanting a change... Anyone who follows the I-Cubs know much about how he has done with that staff? Heck...I guess Hill does a lot better down there so that's a start at least.
  23. Tribune speculates that AAA pitching coach Krasnitz (sp?) could be in line for the pitching coach job. Thoughts? I don't know much about the guy.
  24. Hopefully this has no effect, but you never know... In the What's news section of today's WSJ it shows that the Tribune Co. lost a tax court decision that could cost it 1Billion dollars... Makes me think we should cut vetran guys like Neifi and Macias and go with a youth movement to save money huh? :D
