  1. As I've officially given up on this year and can think only of having a chance to complain in person to the front office...anybody know when the Cubs convention will be this year? How do you get tickets? Where? Will there be a dunking booth in Lake Michigan for Dusty?
  2. Wow...Corey's chart shows a pretty stark shift would likely be a good way to defend him...I don't think I saw one ball hit down the left field line...really nothing to the left of left center.
  3. welcome to our world. the difference of course is yet another crappy utility player is having a stellar year for the Cardinals How many starting pitchers for the Cardinals have missed signifcant time this year due to injury (as Wood and Prior have)? Position players are easier to replace than starting pitchers. Not one. The first time anyone other than their 5 starters, started a game was when they called Reyes up to set their rotation before the Cub series...that was the only time this year that Carp, Mulder, Morris, Suppan or Marquis wasn't the starter. Pretty amazing considering we've had like 15 different starters.
  4. Well...from here on out they basically all are...but tonight is a must win...admittedly...even if we do win, its a one and a million chance..."But I'm saying we've got a chance" Said in my best Lloyd Christmas from dumb and dumber voice...
  5. I hope this is one of the few times this year our pen finds the zone very quickly when coming into a game.
  6. so I guess a quick 1,2,3 inning would be nice here. Edit...Opps...I thought that was 3...Maybe Murton will tie it...then Glendon can shut them down.
  7. I sure hate to give Grudz a chance to burn us...
  8. That just might be the best lineup we've put out this year.
  9. That it was...but I just don't see it...they may "like" Dusty(and that's debatable see Todd Walker) but I don't see it as a "run through a wall for the guy" like...I see it as a "friendly bartender" kind of like....its nice...but nobody cares.
  10. I know there are those who will disagree...but I think overall the Cubs have the makings of a pretty darn good team...however, I think they are horribly motivated/managed. Take for instance the games against the Cardinals this year. I personally think the team "gets up" for these games....and I think you see the results in the team playing pretty well (you could say the same thing about the White Sox Series)....however, I think they are just too lax and indifferent against the rest of the teams...I don't see the drive and focus that a good team should have...I lay that right at the feet of the manager. I think this is Dusty's greatest (of many) shortfalls.
  11. Not to complain...but was Macias really the best option there?
  12. Is it too early to say we are the best team ever? maybe a slight exageration
  13. if loosing is anything like losing, that must have sucked! /spelling nazi I should just start sending my posts to my secretary...and have her edit and post them for me....maybe I could dictate them...
  14. Why am I getting that same feeling I had last year when we went up on them by like 8 in hte first inning and then went on to loose the game?
  15. Wow!! 2-0 before I even knew the game had started...this is GREAT!
  16. No need to delay the inevitable. i don't want to skip the game just that lineup! Why? Let Dusty's idiocy be displayed for all to see. hasn't it already? walker's being interviewed and he is pissed... please provide details for those of us that are listening to the radio / at work Yes...please let us know what Walker has to say...I'm quite interested as to why the Jose and Nefi show is playing again.
  17. 1. RF Jose Macias 2. 2B Neifi Perez 3. 1B Derrek Lee 4. 3B Aramis Ramirez 5. SS Nomar Garciaparra 6. C Michael Barrett 7. LF Matt Murton 8. CF Corey Patterson 9. SP Greg Maddux Are you freakin Sh#$ING me? I come back from lunch to see this....it woudl be painful if it mattered, or if it weren't so funny. [/b]
  18. I just got an e-mail from the Cubs wanting me to enter a sweepstakes in order to win a chance to go to the World Series...it struck me a funny...seeing as the only chance the Cubs have of going to the World Series is through winning a sweepstakes.
  19. A very tempting offer if you can guarantee the outcome. 8) Seriously...if the Cubs get swept..at home...by the birds...that will make it 12 in a row and 10 under .500...Not only should dusty not make it to the end of the month, he shouldn't make it to the next road trip.
  20. Sosa? Pujols? Clemens? Although I'm sure its not...and I hate to wish ill on any guy...and he seems to be a quality all around guy...a mean part deep inside of me would smile widely if it were Pujols...it might make this season more bareable down here in the STL.
  21. Maybe this is/has being/been discussed elsewhere...but did anyone notice JoBo hasn't given up a run in his 11 apperances with TampaBay? Maybe our talent scouts need to be replaced...

    .500

No longer should we settle for them being just mediocre. Do you think fans of the Yankees or Red Sox just want their team to be over .500? That is having low aspirations. While I agree about making it to the postseason, I could care less what they do from here on out. Sure if they make the postseason great, over .500 and no playoffs, they might as well be the Devil Rays. I don't think, at this point, hoping for above .500 is settling for mediocrity...its hoping for them playing much better than they've shown they can do to date....that being said...I understand your point...I just think its important to continue winning...that, and to get Johnny Damon, Adam Dunn, bullpen help and maybe a starter who can go a full season in the offseason. ...oh, and a new manager

    .500

I've basically given up on any post season for this team...there is absolutely no reason to think otherwise. That being said...I'd really like to at least win 82 games...do they have the heart to do it? I know that would take playing 4+ games over .500 for the rest of the year and they've done nothing to show that they can accomplish that. I think its important (I'm not sure why) to at least have a winning record...the last two years were the first in my lifetime that they've won in back to back seasons (I'm almost 30)....I'd like to at least keep in positive ground... Thoughts on their ability to at least do that?
