  1. I think that is what you call picking your team up after the opponent scores.
  2. Thanks for the help guys. Its appreciated. C
  3. I'm thinking of taking my wife and young Son to their first Cubs game at Wrigley, (My boy Will is 1-0, with a victory over the dreaded birds here in St.Lous...but that was the game that Nomar hurt his man part) I know about Stub-Hub, and e-bay, and the scalpers outside...just thought I'd check to see if there were any other quasi legit ways to get good tickets to a game like this. Thanks in advance.
  4. how many times has Lee been up with 2 on this year?..twice?
  5. This is the first time I've checked in tonight...how sad is it that even with Lee out, this is the best set up Cubs lineup we've seen, maybe all year...
  6. Thank you to all for the info...
  7. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/index 1/2 way down the page in the voices section, its by Eric Karabell
  8. Not asking for a full text paste as that would be cheating...but anyone read the article (headline said the cubs were clueless or something like that) and could you kind of relay the jist of it?
  9. 0 1 Greenburg will pinch hit for the pitcher in the 9th, with 2 out, nobody on.
  10. That don't play 3rd or First. Who are they? (if anyone says Sammy they will be drug outside and beat) :zap:
  11. Oh...and welcome to the Forum!
  12. Yeah...I'm beginning to regret it. SLUbee...you a SLU grad or student?
  13. http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/images/covers/coveri/WBD016768.jpeg Trouble with a capital T and that rhymes with D and that stands for Dusty. Well said...well said indeed.
  14. "Overhearing the interview at an adjoining locker, Aramis Ramirez offered his third base job to Hairston. Hairston laughed, although he did say he was willing to play left field if Baker was interested. Baker is not interested, saying it was the most difficult outfield position to learn. Hairston said he played it last year in Baltimore and had no problem. "Just because something is tough doesn't mean you run away from it," he said." From Sullivan's colum, so take it for what its worth...but, With Ramirez's comment, coupled with Hairston's outright plea to just let him play, could it be that a large part of the slump/skid is that the team is just tired of being sent out there with some of the best players on the bench every night and a lineup that makes absolutely no sense at all?
  15. Wow...I never imagined this when I started this thread. This team has truly just falen apart. With Lee out, even for a few days, we've got trouble right here in river city. I've lost faith in Hendry. Nomar went down darn near the 2nd or 3rd week of the season and he's done absolutely nothing to remedy SS or LF (Which became a bigger problem once we found out we wouldn't have a great bat at SS)...He completly blew off fixing the bullpen this off season, and we've still got Macias on this team. 2 years ago I thought we had a legit shot at making the playoffs each of the next 3 years...we'll be lucky to come back to .500 at the current rate. What upsets me the most is that he'll wait till July 31 and make a trade...maybe its just me, but I think we needed help June 30.
  16. You also need your farm system to provide cheap talent at a key position or two to allow you to afford to trade for guys like Dunn or Mench. If Cedeno and Pie can cover SS and CF, you can sign Dunn to a big contract while holding on to other soon to be expensive, but productive parts like Zambrano and Prior. Untouchable is a loose term for "it would take something real extraordinary to trade him". If the Yankees offered A-Rod (and paid half his contract) for Pie, Mitre and Hill, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Untouchable just means you won't trade him unless you can get a serious impact player in return. Ok...how about something like this... Pie and Mitre for Mench? He's performed solidly at the major league level for several years and has a solid OBP and power. At this point I'm thinking that I'd be open to something like that...just insert trade target (Dunn, Huff, et al...) I think we've really got to consider it if we get a proven young player in return.
  17. I saw it too...it was fairly obvious, I hope he does it every single time if it gets him on base...two fold benefit...increases the chance of him getting on base, or increases the chance of him getting plunked and Cedeno starting.
  18. I know I'll get stoned for suggesting this...well, maybe not, cause I'm not actually suggesting anything, but instead raising a point. In the past 4-5 years we've had several "can't miss" or "untouchable" minor leaguers. see e.g. (Patterson, Hill, Choi, Guzman, Sisco, Brownlie). While that's great to have a farm system with valuable people, its arguable that none of these have performed at solid level on a consistent basis in the majors. Where I'm going with this is this... Why is Pie, or anyone else for that matter, untouchable? If we could get Mench, Dunn, or someone of a similar ilk that will actually help this team, isn't that an effective use of the farm system? Especially considering Dusty's refusal to play youngins, and further considering that only a relatively small percentage of these "can't miss" prospects actually become everyday players, much less all stars. If we can get proven young talent, isn't it worth trading guys like this?
  19. Yeah I remember the end of the dale murphy era, those horrible unis....they were bad. I don't know enough about their history, when they turned it around was it a new owner, gm, manager?? Or did they just "fall" into success? Actually...it was the Cubs' fault. 8-10 years of a rotation of Maddux, Smoltz, Glavine set them up for success.
  20. well...with grand hopes of 7-3, or 6-4 before the 10 games started...right now 5-5 would be welcome... Please Mr. Hendry, get us a LF...and Make Dusty start Ronny.
  21. Bump Nine games left. Will the real Cubs please stand up? Unfortunatly...I'm afraid that yesterday was pretty close to the real Cubs...we scored some runs...but for this team to win consistently our staff needs to keep the other team at 4 or under. The News on Nomar is encouraging, but we really need production from LF...heck...from CF and SS would be nice too (although I'm high on Cedeno...(that's legal isn't it))...if Hendry can pull that off it would be great. I know all the arguments about needing trading partners and the like...but it seems so freaking wrong to me that we wait until the deadline every year...we've known we had these needs for at least 2 months...the quicker we act the more benefit we get from any trade...anyway...
  22. It was a strike. the one to Ronny wasn't
  23. I'm still annoyed Bernie got picked off....we better win this game.
  24. Is it just me, or do the 10 games right before the all-star break amount to a very crucial time in the wild card race? We have Washington (3); Atlanta (4); and Florida (3)...the thee teams closest in the WildCard race(I count Wash even though they lead the division). A good showing in that stretch...(say 7-3?) would put us in good shape to take the wild card lead, and would also set us up for going into the break on a high and put us in a good spot for the second half of the season. A lot of those games are on the road...but since we've got the band back together and a 1/2 a tank of gas, I see no reason why we can't "hit it." What are people's predictions for those 3 series? Am I over reacting to the importance of those 3 series? Are the Nats really going to stay in this all year?
