  1. That sounds perfect....I figure being here in St. Louis I'd get most all the games except the cards games...and I get all those anyway...80% is sure better than the 20% I get now...
  2. Great to hear...would you say you get 50% of the Cubs games? 60? 75? 80?
  3. Whats everyone think of this package? How many non-WGN Cubs games are on there? Worth the $?
  4. My wife got me one of these for Christmas...I knew I loved that woman for a reason! It is awsome, 24 hour baseball, all the games, uncensored comedy, and not having to listen to the local st.louis sports radio guys...its a wonderful thing.
  5. And Glendon doesn't look that bad in this pic... http://sports.myway.com/images/20060216/CUBS_SPRING_BASEBALL.sff_AZNH113_20060216150903.html
  6. I'm not sure if he can even be called "Big Z" anymore....damn. He looks good. (and I mean that in the most heterosexual way I can) :D
  7. Wow...if that's the physique it takes...I guess I DO have a chance at being a MLB pitcher!!! (Lets hope its a bad picture...BUT HEY, its a PICTURE!)
  8. http://www.espn.go.com/ I'm not good at posting pictures and stuff...but that kid looking at the field on ESPN's front page is what baseball is all about.
  9. I love this quote and send it to my friends the day Pitchers and Catchers report every year....I think it sums up how I feel about baseball perfectly. People will come Ray. They'll come to Iowa for reasons they can't even fathom. They'll turn up your driveway not knowing for sure why they're doing it. They'll arrive at your door as innocent as children, longing for the past. Of course, we won't mind if you look around, you'll say. It's only $20 per person. They'll pass over the money without even thinking about it: for it is money they have and peace they lack. And they'll walk out to the bleachers; sit in shirtsleeves on a perfect afternoon. They'll find they have reserved seats somewhere along one of the baselines, where they sat when they were children and cheered their heroes. And they'll watch the game and it'll be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick they'll have to brush them away from their faces. People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.
  10. No...I don't have any...but I want to see some and I thought we should have one thread with new pictures from Spring Training...so here it is. If anyone finds any from various media outlets, or happens to take some...please post them here!
  11. Or is this the team we go to Chicago with. I'm beginning to think Walker may still be with the Club come opening day. And until I see Kerry throwing in a live game I don't see a pitcher being moved. Are the off season transactions done?
  12. If I remember correctly, Herzog used to do exactly this in St. Louis many moons ago. So, I'm pretty sure, the answer is yes, you can do that.
  13. Anyone know how long they expect to be on sale? I've got a second child due in August and I'm trying to figure out if I can wait that long to buy one so I'll know what names to put on it.
  14. What I was thinking was that if this ends up being a separate and distinct channel from WGN then they will need something to fill WGN up with again. Lord please bring us back to the days where most all of the games are available on free TV! And as someone said above...regardless of the outcome for Cubs fans...this IS huge national news...ought to be interesting to see how it plays out.
  15. the WB and UPN are merging with CBS to create "the CW" it will be run on all current channels airing WB and UPN programing....The initial news story said that it will have 30 hours a week of "regular" programing. Any chance that this frees some time up for more Cubs games on WGN?
  16. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2292564 Maybe I'm underestimating these prospects...but that seems like not much to give up for two solid pen guys....
  17. What are you talking about??? Now we've got the $$ to sign Juan to a long term deal. :D

    Wood

Listening to MLB homeplate on XM radio this morning (the coolest thing ever by the way) and they have repeatedly mentioned that Wood will be starting to throw soon but that he's not expected to be ready for Opening day. When is he expected to be ready? 2 weeks in? A month in? 8 weeks? God forbid the ASB? Thoughts?
  19. Mr. Miles...I see you lurking... Are we getting worked up for nothing or does this thing have legs?
  20. Let me try and make myself clear. Jeff Conine shouldn't even be an option. He is not an option. You cannot even consider him. If the only other "option" is Jacque Jones for multiple years, at multiple millions of dollars...I completely disagree The trouble with that line of thinking is that you still have Encarnacion and Wilson as much better options for RF if you choose to go the FA route. Not that they're great or anything, but they are all better than Conine, who would be a okay bench player on a normally managed team. I just came home to find the Jones signing....just great. I don't disagree with your statement at all...but I will say again...given the option between Jones and what is now a 3 year 15+ million contract...or Conine at 1 year 1+ million....well, I'd have rather had option B.
  21. Let me try and make myself clear. Jeff Conine shouldn't even be an option. He is not an option. You cannot even consider him. If the only other "option" is Jacque Jones for multiple years, at multiple millions of dollars...I completely disagree
  22. Those numbers were done in role player capacity. Not everyday player. A 40 year old Conine is not an option for everyday player. You're talking about a guaranteed sub 800 OPS from RF, no freaking way. Again...maybe I'm not making myself clear...I'm not saying he's the second coming of Ted Williams...I'm saying, all things considered, he may be a better option than Jones. Indeed, his OPS was 20 points higher than Jones' last year. If those are my two, and only two options...I pick Conine, if for no other reasons than he gets on base more and would easily fall back into the 4th outfielder role if/when we were able to pick up a quality player in a trade once the season starts. Its not like we've got a ton of much better options just staring us in the face right now.
  23. There ya go with all your positive spin again Goony... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=4600 His numbers from last year really weren't all that bad. The .374 OBP is more than we could ever dream of getting from Jones, and we wouldn't be tying up RF long term with a bad player/bad contact. He could slide into the 2 hole with those numbers...I'm not saying he's a season maker...just that he could be a better option than Jones, especially since it allows(no screams) for a mid-season upgrade at that position. Suggesting it, considering our current options, is far from grounds for institutionalization...despite what my wife may think.
  24. He's not Left handed and doesn't have much pop to speak of...but he hits for average, gets on base very well and can play a corner outfield spot...how bout we sign him to a one year deal for 2 mill or so...save the money for a mid year deal if that's what we have to do to improve....keeps us away from Jones at 5 mill a year for a couple years and actually gets us a productive ballplayer...also lets us get one step closer to reuniting the 03 marlins. :D
