  1. Wow...Florida's clubhouse is falling apart...I don't like the way these quotes sound, but if Miggy is causing a stir down there I'd sure be interested in seeing him in our outfield for the next 4-5 years...althought dusty would have to go to ensure he didnt' become SammyII. (From ESPN) Cabrera isn't in the mood for a lecture, however. "[Forget] the veterans," he told the Post. "They haven't told me anything and they better not come tell me anything, either. "I don't want to hear anything else. I want to play baseball, give what I have to give on the field of play, and win. That's all I want. ... "Everyone here is a grown man," he told the newspaper. "Everyone knows what he's doing. And I'm not going to go crazy worrying about these things."
  2. Now batting leadoff and playing CF for your 2006 Chicago Cubs - Brad Wilkerson! I know there is rampant man love for Wilkerson arround here...but doesn't it bother anyone that his average and OBP have regressed for two straight years and that his Average AND OBP are worse than Walker's and would only be right around 6th amongst players I count as potential regulars for next year? (He's behind Lee, Ramirez, Walker, Murton, Cedeno)....I think he'd probably cost to much for the arguably limited return on investment. (Ducks waiting for somene to throw things and yell that Wilkerson is God) I'm not as high on Wilkerson as some might be, but I still favor him over Murton and especially Cedeno. Yeah, Cedeno was a pretty small sample size, but I still like him as a player and luckily they don't play the same spot so they aren't mutually exclusive. Don't get me wrong, Wilkerson is a valuable assett...and a lineup that starts Murton, Wilkerson, Lee and Ramirez is pretty darn interesting...I just don't know if he's worth giving up everything we've got.

  4. A complete White Sox collapse? Well, there is that. :D 8) I do hope the Cubs can knock out the Astros. It would be something (better that nothing). I hope the Cubs knock out the Stros, if for no other reason that it means that the Cards don't get to play the Pads in the first round...I'd like to see them have to play two tough teams to get to the WS
  5. I'm going lower, 2 1st inning runs precipitated by a two out walk after Prior was ahead 0-2. No no no...you guys got it all wrong...this is the time of the year when Prior pitches 3 straight complete game shutouts with 16+ Ks in each game...giving us much hope for next year...until he is forced to miss time in spring training and not get is first start till June...
  6. I was hoping that I'd get to push the button...would have felt rather cathertic... Oh well...watching it come down piece by piece for several weeks from my office window will be its own little reward.
  7. Yeah...its not as bad as last year...but there are just so many "what ifs" out there...the 8 games right before the break against Wash and Atlanta still sting quite a bit too...we were 4 games over before that disaster...just winning 2 or 3 of those.....what might have been.
  8. Did Wood have an option that vested last night? This isn't about Wood and his contract. People are bemoaning the fact that this topic was brought up, that too big a deal is made of it. Well, its relevant due to the current circumstances, and its relevant because this is a Cubs' message board. Listen, your points regarding Wood may be valid. Lord knows that this organization doesn't limit itself to one mistake a year. An argument may have merit that Wood's contract is a bigger drag on the organization. Fine. That doesn't eliminate the fact that Maddux's option vested and, therefore, is ripe for discussion without the lamenting that the issue was raised. I haven't read the whole thread so if this has been discussed, sorry...but for all the complaining about the topic, it should be noted that there is a darn good chance that Maddux will lead the team in wins and innings pitched this year, he did the exact same thing last year, and there no real reason to think he won't put up similar numbers next year...he's probably a bit overpaid, but I'd say we're getting more out of that money than we are Patterson and his contract is not even in the top 10 of things we have to worry about.
  9. Also...I think I can go out on a limb and say this is the shortest cubs/cards game thread ever.
  10. why do you take Maddux out there? Just another addition to the bad moves thread.
  11. Let me start this off with I really think Dusty is a bad manager and has done nothing to help this team...however, When thinking about this thread I just thought of an interesting question... What did the Cubs end up finishing out of the WC last year? 3 games behind houston.... So...just for the sake of argument, say we won 4 more games last year...that's less than one extra win a month. At that point Dusty would have got us to the playoffs for 2 consecutive years for the first time since something like 07-08...would he still be on the hotseat with the fans now that he is if he won those 4 games? Or what about 1 more in 03?
  12. Glad to see neither Murton or Cedeno are starting today...I mean this is not the time of year where you want to put youngsters in...it takes season veterans to know how to handle this level of suckyness... FIRE DUSTY.
  13. If he can do something to hurt the cards in the playoffs I'm all for it!
  14. Are you freakin serious?? I just checked in...and its bad enough that we're getting beat 8-1...but we're getting beat 8-1 with Holly and Perez in the line up? We are SOO freaking out of it...what in the sam #$%% do you gain by playing Perez and Holly...I'll give Dusty one thing...he sure does make it a lot easier to not give a damn.
  15. Dubois for Gerut for Lawton for Berg. Hendry sure took the roundabout way of getting this guy. Perhaps this was the master plan all along. I believe Berg starts tomorrow in Peoria. So he's an A level starter....Thanks...that's quite a bit more than I knew 10 min ago...It'd be nice if he projected to a 1/2 way decent player or could be traded for one.
  16. Maybe I'm missing it, but I've seen no discussion of the guy we got for Lawton...whats the word on him...is he worth anything at all or was getting rid of lawton's salary the biggest benifit of that trade?
  17. Glendon Rusch, Kent Mercker, Ryan Dempster, Joe Borowski, Matt Clement, Mark Guthrie, Todd Van Poppel, Alan Benes, Ron Mahay. LaTroy Hawkins, Francis Beltran, Matt Clement, Kent Mercker, Alan Benes, Phil Norton, Pat Mahomes, Jeff Fassero, Ron Mahay. Didn't most of the guys you marked as "improved" do so under Lacheman? And 1/2 the guys who left either die of old age or shouldn't have pitched in the majors anymore regardless?
  18. I've only kind of given a little bit of thought to this...but the more I think the more obvious its become. In the last 5 years or so, name a pitcher that has come to the Cubs and not regressed... In the same time, name a pitcher who has left the Cubs and not improved? The one that pushed me over the edge was Alfonseca...he was god awful with us...but look at his numbers since. Same thing can be said for Farnsworth, Borowski, Hawkins (4 earned runs in last 20 innings pitched), Gordon.... And I don't think you can say Prior or Wood has progressed
  19. The only move that makes sense is Neifi to 3rd and Ronny at SS...thus...it will never happen.
  20. Foulke, Wickman, Hermanson, Guardado, Todd Jones, Mesa(pirates), Looper(Mets). Lol, yeah, but for us? Well if that were the criteria then I'd have to say we should stay away from free agent SSs as well.
  21. From what I understand there would still be 22 mill + to go after offense. Which would bring Giles...then you work a trade for another outfield bat Kerns/Dunn/Huff, whoever...and you've still got some money for the other spots...It seems inconcievable to me that this team can't field a very quality club all around for the 100 million or so we'll have to spend.
  22. Away from Billy Wagner. How come CPatt? NM, don't know what I was looking at hehe, 24 mill seems high. The 3 in conjunction with the 24 is the important part. Remember Remmy. That has a nice ring to it. I think he's worth it...dude is only 34...hasn't had an ERA above 2.5 in 4 years...last three I think the average is under 2.0... Is he the only thing we need? not by a long shot....but he makes it an 8 inning game. Heck...Matt Lawton is getting 7.75 Mill... For Comparision...Rivera is getting 10.5 Mill, Izzy is 8.2, Foulke is getting 7.5, .... 8 for Wagner doesn't seem out of line at all....heck, maybe we could say we couldn't afford Neifi because of the expense.
  23. ESPN Rumor mill has him asking for a 3 year 24 million dollar contract. Where do I sign?
  24. so 132 pitches seem reasonable...I mean we're in the heat of a pennant race and its not like Prior's ever had arm problems or anything.
