FYI, that was an 8 game slide. And the Cubs went from 3 games out to 6.5. And it was 10 of 11. They were 2 games back before then. Yes, they are still within striking distance and nobody has run off with the division yet. But that was some serious damage. There are now 8 teams ahead of them for the wild card. The Cubs have relied too long on the "it's early" claim. Last year they lost 8 straight early, and did it again 2 more times. There's no reason to give up, but I think it's important to remember that these losses all count and hurt. They can't just expect things to get better, they have to proactively make things better. My bad on the 8 game slide...but I think the 10 out of 11 proves my point even more...the fact that we lost 10 of 11 and that only equated to 3.5 in the standings is pretty lucky on our part. Regardless. I completely agree, the only way any of it matters is if we go out and do something to make the offense better, Kerry, Mark, Wade...whoever, cannot pitch enough shutouts to compensate for the offense as it currently stands.
