  1. Tim, are you able to deduct any of these expenses on your tax return as a business loss? With my brief experience preparing taxes, it seems to me that some (or all - I don't know all the details behind your operation) of the expenses should be able to used as a business loss/gain (obviously a loss right now). I know that won't help in making more money but it would help a bit with the taxes. yep, any loss I have is deductable. Which helps a bit. We've been told at work that the government only allows a loss on one business for 5 years...after that time, they expect the business to take off so it should be showing a profit at some point. Were you aware of that? At least you can take the loss on the taxes. It's better than nothing. Yep. I've got a couple more years to get this to turn a profit, though. :D Ah, I couldn't remember when you started this site. So, if you don't ever turn a profit (scary thought, huh?), can you just not claim the loss on the 6th year and then start right back up and get another 5 years of loss to take? (I probably should know this, seeing as I'm a tax preparer!)

  4. Typically, though, it corresponds with a lucrative contract signed with the Cubs. By the way, Vance, I met a woman from Monroe, LA today. This is how our conversation went. HER: I'm in town from Monroe, LA. ME: Really? I know someone from Monroe. HER: Oh? Who? ME: (crap. What am i talking about? I don't "know" him. I mean, I kinda do, I guess. But not really.) His name is Vance. HER: Vance? Vance what? ME: (meekly) Vance Thecubsfan. Classic! I've had that same conversation many times in the last couple years. The most frequent question I get is where did I get my believe bracelet at...and I have to say some guy from the internet mailed it to me. I get weird looks.

  7. My 8th grade teacher was an avid Cubs fan and always had the radio on during day games...which happened to fall right around our study hall. It was a great study hall that year. :D
  8. I believe he played in a few games last year with the big league club.
  9. Wow! That's awesome. Good work to all involved and hopefully that only creates more revenue for Tim. Here's to a good season of baseball - both major and minor league teams - as well as a good season for Tim and this site.
  10. I'm shocked to see he died. It must have been a very serious stroke. My prayers and thoughts to the Pucket family and friends as well as the Minnesota Twins organization and fans and baseball fans in general who will miss him.
  11. I put the game time/channel in my own personal calendar that I always have with me so I guess I do carry one, though it's not an actual Cubs pocket calendar.
  12. Apolo won gold in the 500. Very exciting race to watch.
  13. I think snowboard cross looks like a really fun sport.
  14. Some female skiier for America crashed during a trial run today and had to be rushed to the hospital. I don't recall her name and I didn't hear if she'll be alright or not. Scary stuff.
  15. I enjoyed watching that as well. I liked how they were able to show the side by sides of the gold and silver medalists and show how the gold medalist did better on that first jump. It was very interesting to see.
  16. All day I looked forward to watching the speed skating with Apolo Anton Ohno...I can't believe he didn't qualify in the 1500. I am really shocked. And what really sucks is that he did it to himself. He was skating a clean skate and tried to move into first when he didn't even have to - 2nd would have qualified him. :x
  17. Amen to that brother! Oops  Haha...I never even saw the post. :) Yes, it's true...I'm a girl. A girl who is completely bored and ready for the season to start and who wants to see Walker starting at second base.
  18. Sigh. I just wish the Cubs would take Neifi out of the equation altogether and allow Walker to start and Hairston to back him up. I can't wait for the season to start. I'm bored of being bored.
  19. I love the Olympics - both summer and winter. I do like to watch ice skating so I'll definately be watching all of that. I'll also watch skiing, the luge, speedskating, bobsledding, probably curling and maybe men's hockey. While I like ice skating, I abhor ice dancing. I've been looking forward to the Olympics for quite some time now...I'm very excited it's time. I was mad, though, because 2 weeks ago, I injured my back and was laid up and couldn't do anything so I was home for almost 2 solid weeks - I wish either the Olympics would have been 2 weeks sooner or my injury happened 2 weeks later. It would have been great to have nothing to do except watch the Games. I did that when I moved to Phoenix in 2002 - I had no job lined up so I got to watch as many of the events as I wanted to.
  20. I voted yes because I'm a much bigger fan of the Cubs than I am of the Bulls...and a bigger baseball fan than basketball as well.
  21. Ditto. Interleague play is stupid, in my opinion.
  22. It stands for Montreal Expos Baseball.
  23. I always knew the Expos symbol but never realized the Brewers one until this thread.
  24. I think your new idea/outline for the paper will make for a better paper. Once you have a rough draft of that posted, let us know and I'll definately take another look at it for you.
