  1. Len - Thanks for doing the Q&A and for joining the site. How did you get into broadcasting MLB games and what led you to wanting/applying for the Cubs position? How do you/what do you do to prepare for games? And what do you and Bob do on days that you don't have to announce due to national coverage? Thanks again!
  2. I thougt Williams was going to be in the rotation regardless...Prior, Wood, Z, Maddux and Williams. I didn't think Williams' position was contingent on what Maddux does.
  3. Remove the word premium then.
  4. Ugh. The infamous head-first slide by Hairston. :wall:
  5. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/stories.nsf/cardinals/story/354365203D84ED418625707200115ADE?OpenDocument Thanks. I don't like the Cardinals. I'll leave it at that. :)
  6. What happened? I've been out of the baseball realm for a few days. Please enlighten me.
  7. Flipped it back just in time to see Die Hard! get a double!
  8. Who's pitching? Ohman? Ron Cey to sing the stretch.
  9. Huh...Cubs up 2 now. Good job Blanco. Penny pulled.
  10. Murton seems fairly fast. Is that accurate or am I seeing things? :?
  11. Burnitz with the IF single. Tie game with Nomar's sac fly.
  12. I wish the Cubs would get 2 more runs for Prior.
  13. 66% of White Sox fans think the Rangers are stealing signs per White Sox post-game on Comcast.
  14. Whoops. My bad. Wrong channel. Ignore what was here if you saw it.
  15. Let's not practice revisionist history. Maddux joined the Braves because the Cubs pulled their offer from the table. Himes offered what he believed was fair. Maddux wanted to test the market. Himes spent the money allocated for Maddux on a bunch of crap. Maddux called after finding the Yankees were the only ones willing to beat the Cubs offer. Himes said that the offer is off the table. Maddux signed with the Braves. Maddux will now say it worked out for him, but had Himes went to the Trib and gotten permission to keep him, he'd have signed. Maddux's decision to go to the Braves was business pure and simple. No where did it have anything to do with a mythical "chance to win it all." IIRC, Maddux approached the Cubs, and wanted a long term deal. Management told him that they would not do any deals until the end of the season, and that they would talk then. Maddux said he did not want to wait, and wanted to do the deal sooner, rather than later. The Cubs came back with the same responce - wait until the season is over because they don't do deals mid-season. Then, about two weeks or so later, they announced the big deal locking up Sandberg. Maddux felt as though he was lied to, and that the Cubs had a double-standard. In the end, it did not matter what the Cubs offered - he was NOT going to sign with them. If I recall, what you say happened first, during the season so Maddux was a bit soured by the Cubs because they wouldn't lock him up when he wanted to return to the team. Then, the off-season stuff happened that Vance said. I don't blame Maddux one bit.
  16. The Cubs are expected to announce in the next day or two plans to shut down Kerry Wood for the rest of the season. He'll need offseason shoulder surgery. from roto But, if they're shutting him down, why wait to have surgery? Why not do it ASAP so he has longer recovery time?
  17. :?: That area has taken off. (not just because of Wrigley either) It is one of the most popular spots in the city for night life, restaurants, etc. Moving Wrigley would just open up more room for new bars and restaurants. I'm almost positive they can't put it on the lakeshore. There is a city law that states no more buildings will be put on the east side of lake shore drive. It's the original Daley's plan to preserve the lakefront. And moving the team to the suburbs would break every Chicagoins heart. In my opinion, you give it landmark status like Fenway is trying to get. And then you just fix what's broken. You don't replace it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the city give it landmark status? Or were simply trying to and it hasn't happened yet?
  18. That's how I feel. I believe if his number is retired, it'll hang on the right field pole, under Sandberg's and I just don't think he deserves the respect and right to have his number hanging under Sandberg's - especially given how each individual went about playing the game. Maybe at the bottom of another pole...but not the one Sandberg's is hanging on.
  19. Mostly because that's not how you spell his name and it's being done to be condescending towards Corey...something that doesn't need to happen. But we can still call Holla Hollandsworthless? OK Well, I don't agree with doing that either, but until Tim puts in a check for that, I'm sure it'll continue.

  21. Everyone has a right to his or her opinon. I won't say you are right or wrong, just that I disagree. Nice ceremonial first pitch from Ryne to the Hawk.
  22. :pukel: I'm not saying one way or another if #21 should be retired...but I don't think his # deserves the same respect that Sandberg's does and I would hate to see #21 under #23. I don't see how you can't retire it. Sammy was the face of this franchise for many years. You said "Cubs", people thought "Sammy Sosa." He and McGwire brought a lot of the fans back after the strike. He was the only reason to come out and watch the pathetic teams of 1999, 2000, and 2002. He is a sure-bet HOF'er, hit 500+ homers for this team, and is one of the best players the Cubs ever had. Regardless of what you thought of him when he was here or how he left, you can't deny his importance to this organization and what he did for it while he was here. I don't really have an opinion of whether or not it should be retired. I'm not a Sosa fan but I do recognize what he brought to the team up to a few years ago. I just would hate to see his flag under Sandberg's - epsecially given how each went about playing their game...Sandberg was all about respect and the team while Sosa was all about himself.
  23. Who would you rather have, Hollandsworthless or c-patt? Patterson. Great ceremony and great honor bestowed up on Sandberg today and this year.
