  1. That sucks. I feel bad for him. It's a shame for players who were once good to not realize when to stop playing and wind up being treated that way.
  2. :pukel: I'm not saying one way or another if #21 should be retired...but I don't think his # deserves the same respect that Sandberg's does and I would hate to see #21 under #23.
  3. Because he's part of the upper management that has not produced a winner. Yosh got a big cheer! I hate booing, but I had to laugh at MacPhail getting booed, and then his reaction. That's right, start a "SANTO!" chant. I hate booing too. I thought he handled it well. I liked the Santo chant as well.

  5. Pre-game is on. It's nice to hear Harry make those calls.
  6. Because Baker's at the helm. Many people on the board feel Cedeno should get a shot at SS next year.
  7. Or maybe he's pitching better due to not pitching in a pressure-packed situation/team/city? Also a good explanation. It just seems like when pitchers leave Chicago they pitch better, for the most part. Juan Cruz sure hasn't. What happened to him? Where is he now?
  8. I have no idea, but I'd venture to say it would be on the right field pole to even them out and because he played on the right side of the field. Just a guess, though. The #23 pennant will definitely go up the right field foul pole. Gary Matthews, Bobby Dernier, and two other former players whose names I don't recall right now will perform the ceremoneous flag raising. I'm so excited for the ceremony! 15 mintues!
  9. Or maybe he's pitching better due to not pitching in a pressure-packed situation/team/city? Also a good explanation. It just seems like when pitchers leave Chicago they pitch better, for the most part. I understand that as well but leaving Chicago/Rothschild wouldn't explain why he pitched well in Chicago under Rothschild in 2002 and 2003. It is aggravating to see players perform poorly in Chicago and see them succeed elsewhere (that's why I'm hesitant to let Corey Patterson go.)

  12. I don't think Nomar wants to play second - unless he has changed his mind.
  13. Maddux did not leave the Cubs for more money. He left because the organization didn't treat him well and didn't want him back - he had no choice but to leave. I don't blame him for leaving and signing with a good team. If I recall, he took less money to go to Atlanta than if he had signed with the Yankees...it's not all about the money all the time.
  14. Ditto. I've always liked the Braves after the Cubs. I don't know why...maybe because Maddux was there, maybe because I could watch their games as well or maybe because they're just a good team and a well-run organization.
  15. Lost in the Walker talk, I found this very aggravating, yet very Dusty-like (going against Hendry's wishes again): But, as others have said, it was written by Sullivan so who really knows what's going on.
  16. The pre-game is definately being taped...not so sure about the actual game though.
  17. Your Move?!? I never even noticed that you left our left coast, even though I know it was happening. Goes to show how quickly this summer has gone. How's the new place? New place is great and I'm thrilled to be back in Chicago! Heading to my first Cubs games @ Wrigley in years this weekend. I wish I could say that the game would be more meaningful, but at least I'll be there. :D Enjoy the game. Congrats on the move. Why did your family decide to move? Have your kids lived anywhere other than California?
  18. I honestly don't think it's such a good thing for the Cubs to keep winning with these players just for the sake of winning - I think it could do more harm than good for them to keep winning with the players they have now because I feel that will only make Hendry/Baker want those same players back and we all saw what they're capable of doing. We know what the vets are capable of. We dont' know what the rookies will provide. Let's find out now. I really don't believe the Cubs will be going to the post season. Look to the long-term future and see what the young kids can do given a consistent chance.
  19. If Dusty is fired, all was not a failure. If he remains at the helm, then it was beyond failure.
  20. It would have been cool if the writer had interviewed Tim re: this site like he did for the DodgerBlues.com site. He actually made a request, but I never was able to synch up with him before the article came out. Aw...that sucks. That would have been pretty cool for you to have promoted your site like that. Oh well...maybe he'll do another article sometime.
  21. I understand that Rogers is a moron, and eminently capable of coming up with such dreck - but the fact that this made it through the myriad of copy editors that work a major daily is insane. Especially given the fact that a short quick check on Baseball-Reference gave me the information I posted regarding the longest losing streaks the Braves have had each year since 1980.
  22. Dream lineup. I don't even think the real lineups are out this early.

  24. He's wrong.
