  1. Managing the Cubs...hey, it's better than cancer!
  2. My prediction from yesterday that Theriot won't get another start until the September call-ups is looking better and better.
  3. Wow. I can't remember a Cub outfield with a collective set of worse throwing arms.
  4. Cubs win! Zambrano moves to 9-3. The second-half run begins...now!
  5. I'm betting he doesn't another start until the September call-ups. Not that I think that he is any great shakes, but I don't see why he couldn't be a Craig Counsell type, which would be an improvement over the Neifi-types this team usually employs.
  6. He does it for the ladies. He also drives a Trans-Am. That's how cool he is.
  7. Buckner looks like he hasn't aged a day since his playing days. I wonder if he uses Grecian 5?
  8. Ah, the dulcet tones of Bill Buckner. Like candy to the ears. What are the odds that Len and Bob bring up Game 6 in the bottom of the 7th?
  9. Z with 103 total pitches. Last time he had a start in which he threw 103 pitches or less was on April 13th against the Reds. Edit: Actually, scratch that. He threw 101 pitches against Cleveland on June 21st. He also threw 101 pitches against Cincy on May 31.
  10. Tweaks are more annoying with the Cubs than they are with other teams, because usually tweaks are accompanied by lengthy stays on disabled list.
  11. Whoever called a Juan Pierre ground ball to the second baseman, take a bow. That means all of you.
  12. Dusty's line-up moves (Neifi, Blanco) pay off. Don't ever question Dusty again.
  13. Nice day at the plate for ARam today.
  14. Mets strategy pays off. Get Zambrano to tire himself by running the bases.
  15. It kills me when fans yap about lack of hustle and fundamentals. Not that I like to see players dogging it or poor execution (although, even good teams make errors, fail to score the runner from 3rd with less than 2 outs, botch hit and run attempts, bunts, etc.), but when the team is broken, hustle and fundamentals should be the least of their concern. Fans are deluding themselves with this stuff. It's like being in on the Titanic and complaining of a broken fixture while the ship is going down.
