  1. Read it and weep... http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060627&content_id=1526163&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc
  2. Dempster with the baseclogger. Strap yourselves in, guys.
  3. "We like a lot of things about Jacque," Cubs general manager Jim Hendry said Tuesday in announcing the deal. "He's a very versatile guy. We were very intent on trying to get a left-handed hitter. He's very athletic, has some pop in his bat, an outstanding throwing arm. He's a versatile player and had a lot of upside in him."
  4. Carlos Zambrano - 2 RBI rest of Cub offense - 2 hits
  5. We get the picture. No, it can't be said enough. Cubs suck
  6. Rickie Weeks, base hit to center. Drives in Gross. 3-0 Brewers. Go Cobs Go!
  7. PBP: Gabe Gross lead-off hit Zach Jackson sac bunt
  8. This franchise needs an enema. http://www.health-information-fitness.com/images/berium-enema.jpg
  9. I'm pulling for a shut-out tonight. Just when you can't imagine the Cubs getting any lower, they seem to invent new ways. Getting shut out by Zach Jackson (Zach Jackson?!?) might finally be the straw that breaks the camels back.
  10. Statements like this just pile on the evidence against this staff. I certainly don't expect the Cubs to draw walks against Santana, but look at how the Twins won their last two games. They worked Clemens for 100 pitches over 5 innings. Last night, they worked Marmol for 106 pitches over 5.2 innings. It's no accident that the Cubs have seen the fewest pitches in the National League. I still think it is one of the strangest facts in the world. Not only do the Cubs hitters never walk, but the Cubs pitchers will seemingly walk everbody. If that were only reversed... Yet Dusty and company constantly bemoan the walks given up by the pitchers, but seemingly ignore (or just don't care about) the lack of walks from the offense. My guess is that Dusty sees walks as simply a function of the pitcher. Hitters don't "draw" walks, pitchers allow them. This is true to an extent, but ignores the fact that plate discipline is cleary an identifiable skill. Some hitters walk a lot, some hardly ever. Unfortunately, the Cubs seem to make a habit of acquiring players that fall in the latter category.
  11. The line, thus far, for Jason Marquis this evening... 4 IP, 14 H, 13 R/ER, 1 BB, 2 SO, 4 HR
  12. just remember this when Z says tomorrow that his arm is still feeling "dead" More bad luck, dude.
  13. It's going to take a rain delay for Dusty to take Zambrano out early.
  14. Murton is puttin' a hurtin' on the ball tonight. Which means he'll probably get sent down when Lee returns.
  15. I hate the White Sox, but I am enjoying seeing the Cardinals take it on the chin.
  16. This game is official. Now let it rain! If Dusty won't let Zambrano get an early shower, maybe the rain will force his hand.
  17. he has been talking about it since sunday That would explain him talking about the letter he recieved recommending that he take it to the laundromat and tape it inside the window of the washing machine.
  18. Ron Santo just spent that entire half-inning talking about cleaning his hair piece. :o
  19. Pierre with an RBI single. With everything else happening tonight, Neifi probably hits a granny here (thus vindicating Dusty's decision to start him and bat him 2nd).
