  1. Can't they just drag out Ray King's old uniforms from out of the moth balls?
  2. Well if I've learned anything from being on-line, it is this: if it's on the internet it must be true. No less a reliable source than "Cubs Hot Stove" has confirmed it. Case closed. The sad thing is, when the news of this signing finally does come to fruition, people like "Cubs Hot Stove" will be able to congratulate themselves for breaking the news and getting it first...as if it takes a real Nostradamus to predict Jim Hendry's idiotic tendencies.
  3. Not included in that transcript was Huff referring to Baltimore as a horse town. That's really going to endear him to the fans. Assuming Huff's days as a Baltimore Oriole are now numbered, my biggest fear is that MacPhail will somehow pawn him off on Jim Hendry.
  4. The The Reds picked up the option on Scott Hatteberg. I know what Red fans are thinking. Scott Hatteberg...hits well enough, gets on base, has some pop, mashes righties...why not? Nice player to have on the roster as an insurance back-up and pinch hitter. That's all well and good, but poor Joey Votto. Unless he goes bonkers Ryan Braun style, Reds fans are soon going to become familiar with the concept of "Dusty-proofing" a roster. Of course they will realize that soon enough with the versatile Juan Castro playing every other day.
  5. Look who just became available... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3086562 Much like guys like Floyd, Jacque, Burnitz, etc., I'd be shocked if Jenkins isn't on Hendry's radar. :(
  6. mike lowell at 3b. at least we have a series. Kenny Lofton on the team up 3-1. ...and Joe Borowski as closer. I fully expect Cleveland to blow game 6 in heartbreaking fashion.
  7. Nah, Norris Hopper, with his Juan Pierre-like skill set, is the exact type of player Dusty loves. Joey Votto on the other hand is a different story. I doubt Dusty gives him the time of day.
  8. Bennett is not a rookie, he pitched a year in Milwaukee (2004). I know, because I recognize the extremely wide, flat bill of his cap. To quote Harry, it'd be nice if he would bite the hand that once fed him.
  9. I think Yost is a fine manager. When you compare him to Dusty, he's Casey Stengel. Not only does he deserve manager of the year, but a nice, big, fat extension as well.
  10. Even if the Cubs do make the playoffs, I hope he is fired.
  11. Is it possible that all five non-Cub teams in the Central could be looking for managers in the off-season? Cardinals -- now that they are back in contention, are all the vague, distant rumblings about LaRussa and Jocketty leaving suddenly moot? Brewers -- if they finish below .500, I'm convinced that Ned Yost is gone. Reds -- they've played much better under Pete Mackanin, but they might be somewhat reluctant to commit to him after going through the same thing with Jerry Narron. Pirates -- Jim Tracy would be an obvious scapegoat, in spite of -- or, rather, because of -- the ineptitude of Dave Littlefield. I mean, what GM worth his salt goes out trading for Cesar Izturis? ...besides Jim Hendry?? Astros -- see above
  12. Good job Cardinals, now go back to sucking again.
  13. Their server is being inundated with schadenfreude-ic Cub fans.
  14. Time for some veteran leadership from Scott Rolen.
  15. You suck, Chris Duncan. Up to Edmonds.
  16. I'm not so sure. They took a mediocore team and won it all last year, becoming the worst team in baseball history to win the World Series. Never underestimate Tony LaRussa's compact with satan.
  17. This should be interesting in a train wreck sort of way. As a play-by-play guy, Steve Stone is a good color analyst. He just doesn't have the voice for it. It will be interesting to see how Stone reacts to Hawk's blatant homerism and on-air pouting sessions. I'm sure he'll be a professional, but he's going to have to do a lot of talking to fill up the inevitable dead air when the White Sox stink up the field.
  18. So it's true, Valentin actually does hit against teams other than the Cubs.
  19. Good job Reds. Time for a walk-off.
  20. Woohoo! I take back everything I've said about the Reds. Now win it, damnit.
  21. Game. Reds are horrible.
  22. 10 consecutive batters have now reached base against Saarloos. Is Pete Mackanin intentionally trying to throw the game? Maybe he hates the Cubs.
  23. Hey, hey, hey, it's Maaaatt Albers!!! Na, na, na, gonna have a good time.
