  1. Well there's this from Jayson Stark, which directly contradicts the Washington Post article I linked to above: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&id=2910803 Don't be surprised if the Orioles add Don Baylor to their managerial-interview list. But Dusty Baker was never a candidate for that list. Every indication is that MacPhail thought Baker wasn't the right fit for this team.
  2. Wow, you score 4 runs to get back into the game and it still feels like a letdown.
  3. Me. As soon as I tuned in, the rally began.
  4. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/06/21/AR2007062100998.html Earlier today, new Orioles President of Baseball Operations Andy MacPhail and former Chicago Cubs Manager Dusty Baker spoke informally regarding the Orioles' managerial position, according to Baker. Now an analyst for ESPN, Baker said the job is "probably not the right fit right now," but did not completely rule out becoming a candidate. BTW, I love this quote from the above link. If this isn't typical Dusty, I don't know what is... "For me to get into the interview, my interview was my last four years with the Cubs," Baker said. "Why should I get an interview when I was with the Cubs [under MacPhail]? We agreed upon that."
  5. How does the whole world decide which lucky team will get the Cubs castoffs at 60 cents on the dollar? If you're an owner of some other team do you not ask your GM why he isn't the one ripping off the Cubs? Who knows, but it does disturb anyone else that Jim also seems to be trading with the same three or four damn teams over and over again? Didn't he go with the Fish at least twice (the Pierre deal, Clement / Six Fingers, and Lee), the Tigers twice (Farns and Neifi), the O's twice (Sosa and Patterson), and now SD twice (Williamson and Barret)? I know he sprinkled in deals with the Braves (Cruz), Giants (Hawkins), and both Sox (Nomar and Aardsma), but this patten concerns me greatly. Yes, I've noticed that too. Hendry definitely has his favorites he likes to deal with, usually with teams where he has a history and/or connections. Now with MacPhail in Baltimore, I expect the amount of dealings with the Orioles will go up exponentionally. Or at least it would of if I wasn't confident that Hendry will be gone after this year (he'll quickly land on his feet to become the director of scouting for the O's). So when will Tejeda be a Cub? When he is sufficiently enough over the hill.

  7. Speaking of throwing out base runners, while Bowen hasn't been good (23 SB, 3 CS), San Diego's regular catcher, Josh Bard, has been every bit as bad (46 SB, 6 CS). Considering that Bard, when with Cleveland, was throwing out ~35% of would be base stealers, I think it's fair to say that the Pad's pitching staff deserves their fair share of the blame. The Padres have been the easiest team to run against in the majors. It's hard to imagine Barrett's CS% getting any worse, but it probably will.
  8. The Silent T Middle Infield! I dream of the day when they have a middle that looks like this... C Blanco P Zambrano 2B Fontenot SS Theriot CF Pie Fixed. Pie > Soriano defensively. Not unless he changes his name to Pie-oh.
  9. The Silent T Middle Infield! I dream of the day when they have a middle that looks like this... C Blanco P Zambrano 2B Fontenot SS Theriot CF Soriano Or, if you prefer, Blancot, Zambranot, Fontenot, Theriot and Sorianot.
  10. Four more solo home runs and this game is tied!!!
  11. I just took your Cubs fan card. You have to root for another team now. I hear the White Sox just give theirs away. Later. What it's true.....If Jacque Jones did what Murton just did, I don't think Jacque would make it out of Wrigley alive. He seemed to make it out OK last night.
  12. Murton sucks. Trade him for a light hitting middle infielder. Might as well throw in Zambrano, too. Is Freddie Bynum available?
  13. Remember last year when it took forever for the Cubs to get their first shut-out? They've already got four this season and are tied for the major league lead.
  14. Player of the game: Alfonso Sori....er, I mean Jason Marquis.
  15. At least Marquis managed to go deep and save the pen a little bit. That will definitely help when this game inevitably goes to extra innings.
  16. I suppose we should be happy Gorzelanny is out of the game, but does it really matter? The Cubs aren't gonna score no matter who they send out there.
  17. I mostly hate it when it's obvious they aren't real Cubs fans. You only say "Let's get some runs" when we're losing, damnit. Wha? Never heard that before. We need runs...bad.
  18. Aramis wanted to get to bed. Thanks Cobs.
  19. One million to one. Expect a quite 1-2-3 inning.
  20. An at-bat that lasted more than 3 pitches. Progress I guess.
  21. Can Blanco pitch? Since they are probably are going to lose this one anyway, it might be worth it to send him out next inning just for the comedic value.
  22. Don't let the Eyre out of the balloon, Scott.
