  1. Dyck is speculating that since Piniella (purportedly) wasn't hired because of his close association with ARod it has driven the rift between the ARod/Jeter faction even deeper thus necessitating a trade since apparently the Jeter/Torre faction "won"...or something. I have little doubt that the White Sox could become players in a potential ARod deal, but this seems like a very clumsly attempt to somehow tie two stories together. Piniella to the Cubs doesn't affect a White Sox/ARod deal one iota. It does increase the Cubs chances of landing ARod however, although I'm not sure they have the talent and wherewithal to get it done.
  2. Chambliss would be a very good hire. It's not his fault that his general manager is an idiot.
  3. Definitely one of the greatest photshops ever, though it became hopelessly outdated. Too bad there was never a 2006 version. I have to admit that it's already a bit outdated. We did come out with a Rookie Edition a while back. OK, that's hysterical. I must have missed that one. Although, with the way Cedeno played last year, water boy might not be the worst designation for him.
  4. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2620449 Looks like ARod will not be on the block.

  6. I've heard good things about Quade, but nothing about Listach. I remember when Listach won rookie of the year for the Brewers and then proceeded to have an entirely forgettable career. He's been in the organization as a coach for quite a while it seems. While I'm not against looking to guys in the system, the last two to get a chance to manage the Cubs from within the system (at least on an interim basis) were Bruce Kimm and Jim Essian. While these guys were put into sour situations and have been unfairly knocked, nobody was clamoring for them to be back. On the other hand, I'd be tickled if the Cubs could get Rick Kranitz for pitching coach and he coached in the Cub organization for 22 years.
  7. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2618837 From the same wire story: General manager Jim Hendry, who was not available for comment, plans to interview two internal candidates this week: Triple-A manager Mike Quade and Double-A manager Pat Listach. Sounds to me like a couple of token interviews, but who knows?
  8. Normally, I'm hesitant to post an emoticon as a reply (and I guess this post will not be an exception), but here goes...
  9. If you are going to commit to Matt Murton in left next year, then commit to him...and let's not play the platoon game. Murton hits well enough against righties to where platooning shouldn't really be considered. Either he's good enough to be in left or he isn't. I don't like the idea of holding him back and possibly retarding his development by allowing him only 200 or so at-bats as part of a platoon.
  10. Playing in AZ doesn't quite count as a bye week. Close though. You are right. My bad. I wonder if Matt Leinert will be soiling himself this week while going over video in preparation for his second career start - on top of being against a defense that will bury him, it's a Monday night. Can't wait. Leinart is already 5 of 5 passing for 84 yards and 2 TD passes against the Chiefs in the first quarter. Can't take any team lightly in this league.

  12. Great. With the bye week, we're going to have 2 weeks to stew over this disappointment. :x :P
  13. I looked it up. 1993...47-17 over Tampa Bay, week 3.
  14. I just realized that the Cowboys are playing the Eagles; TO is facing his facing his former team. Anyone else hear of this? Meanwhile, the Vikings have the ball and the momentum against Detroit. 1st and 10 on the Lions' 43. And the Bears continue to pile on.
  15. Justin Gage is the 8th Bear player to catch a pass.
  16. I don't know about you, but two hours of listening to this is already making me sick of hearing about Blagejcifhscgh already. I think they've played that same audio clip every single break. One benefit of having NFL Field Pass is that they cut the commercials out. Not sure that I would have bought it, though, if I knew I could get Bears games for free.
  17. Looks like Grossman is done for the day.
  18. Touchdown Lions, Kitna to Campbell. 17-3 over the Vikings. Looks to be quite a weekend for Detroit sports fans.
  19. Colts just scored a TD, Manning to Harrison. :x 10-7 Titans.
  20. After the disappointment on the Berrian play, not a bad consolation prize by TJ.
