  1. Man, I'd love to see Carl Crawford playing in Chicago next year. I'd do the suggested Crawford for Hill, Cedeno, and Marmol trade in a second. I'm not too excited about getting rid of Marmol, but I don't think he's going to be as good as he was last year so I could deal with it. Crawford is very underrated, I hope JH can acquire him.
  2. The Yankees have offered him a three year deal... worth a total of 45 million dollars! 15M a year for a relief pitcher, wow! And you thought Hendry overpaid for relievers.
  3. I'm not exactly sure which thread you think this would fit well in. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=45076  Nicely done.
  4. Hopefully you guys who pay closer attention to college football than I do can answer this for me. Next weekend's Mizzou-kU game is confirmed to be on ABC. What isn't known (and won't be known until this Sunday) is whether the game will be at 2:30 or at 7. Now I'm assuming that they're holding off the decision to see if there will be a better game to telecast during primetime. So with that said, if I'd strongly prefer the game to be at 2:30, what do I need to happen in college football this Saturday?
  5. So you'd prefer disgruntled Jacque at 5M on the bench rather than Infante at 2M on the bench? Why? Because disgruntled Jones at least provides a little bit of offense to a team that is in DIRE need of offense. And I really don't care about whether someone is disgruntled or not. It's not like Jones can just go out there and try to suck, because his next contract with a big league team will be dependent on how he performs in his contract year. Is that little bit of offense really worth an extra three million that could be spent elsewhere though? Also, although in a somewhat limited sample size, Jacque has sucked coming off the bench in his career.

  7. Two good moves in two days by Hendry.
  8. What do you mean by full season? As a starter? I'd have no interest in either starting. However, given Fontenot's numbers vs RHP this year, .297/.358/.423, I would think he'd be able to at least come close, if not exceed, Infante's career .257/.301/.387 line, as a part-time player. Fontenot v. RHP June: .410/.449/.689 Every other month: .239/.318/.289 What site did you find those numbers at? I was trying to find that breakdown earlier, but couldn't. Thanks in advance. probably baseball-reference.com. go down the page to "Splits" and pick "2007", then scroll down to the month-by-month section Yeah, that's the first place I went. Doesn't have the stats that TT posted though.
  9. When he reminds us all that he'll wear KOSUKE on his MLB jersey. Why exactly is that? I know Ichiro does it, but you didn't see Hideo Nomo with "Hideo" on his jersey. So Taguchi's jersey doesn't say "So." Chan Ho Park's jersey doesn't say "Chan." Did Tuffy Rhodes' jersey say "Tuffy?" It kind of bothers me that Ichiro did it and this guy is supposedly doing it too.

  11. Good point about Fontenot. I don't think his name has even been brought up. After that good first month, he was just terrible the rest of the year. Maybe Infante is being brought in to fill Fontenot's role. I would have no problem with that at all.
  12. Can someone make the case for Tulowitzki, cause I'm not seeing it at all. Take him out of Coors Field for the whole year, and his name wouldn't have even been in the discussion. To me, Braun should have won by a mile. He had a monster year.
  13. I've asked this a couple times, but each time it was as an aside within another post so I wanted to ask it again. Does anyone remember who we were going to receive back from the Marlins in that trade that almost went down this summer?
  14. The teams who lost out on the Fukudome sweepstakes could have interest in Jones. And if you can't get anymore value than Infante, you might as well just keep Jones. An outfielder could get hurt in ST, increasing Jone's trade value. Hendry just traded a guy who's value couldn't be any lower. He's famous for that. I really don't understand it, other than Hendry felt he owed it to an unhappy player to move him. I see what you're saying. Still though, with the Cubs having already signed their starting CF-er, they wouldn't have much leverage in negotiations to deal Jones. To your second point, he absolutely did not trade him when his value couldn't be any lower. Making that Florida trade last year would have been trading him at his lowest value. The guy hit .330 in the 2nd half last year, with an OPS+ of 116. ...which should cue the "that's all Hendry could get for a guy who dominated in the 2nd half?!" posts. This looks like a positive move to me right now. It could look better or worse, depending on if there are any prospects being included, and how much (if any) money is being exchanged. I hope all that info comes out quickly.
  15. Yeah, there's that one report that says it. I guess we won't know anything for sure until the trade is officially announced. I'd be shocked if we don't come out ahead in money though.
  16. I'm not so sure it's a salary dump. I still think it's Hendry doing Jacque the favor of trading him. Why make this move before free agents are even eligible to be signed? Couldn't Jacque's trade value increase once the biggest free agent losers look to fill their outfield holes? Couldn't the smaller market teams find interest in a guy in the last year of his contract over signing a similar guy to a 3 or 4 year contract? Why trade a guy from a position of weakness compared to trading him from a position of strength? If the Cubs already had Fukudome signed, then you consider trading Jones, not the other way around. Jones made for a decent back up plan if they didn't find an improvement over Jones. Not sure I follow. You say that it's best to trade a guy from a position of strength (which I agree with), then go on to say that we should have waited til after we signed Fukudome and then traded Jacque? That doesn't make sense. At any rate, even if Hendry traded Jacque at his request... it's still a salary dump. At the end of the day, Hendry has 3 million more than what he started with. Lastly, with Infante now on board, Cedeno becomes even more worthless than he was last year. I wouldn't be surprised if we see him included in a package somewhere. For Crawford maybe?
  17. Hmm, this article says that we will be paying part of Jacque's contract next year. http://www.mlive.com/tigers/index.ssf/2007/11/tigers_trade_infante_for_jacqu.html
  18. NSBB is not one person with a singular opinion. I was one of the most anti-Jones people here, but I didn't want him gone "at any cost." This deal doesn't improve the team. It puts them in a slightly better financial position, but it may preclude them from improving the one position that had next to no hope of even looking average next year. I'm not sure you're ever going to be people happy to see another mediocre middle infielder acquired. I want actual good baseball players to play for the Cubs, enough so that the team can win 95-100 games and realistically contend for the world series. What I don't want is a GM who is given a ton of money to spend but only comes up with mediocrity, at best. I know that NSBB is not one person with a singular opinion. That's why I said "most of." I can't say I'm thrilled to see Omar Infante coming aboard, but he's simply a backup infielder. Big deal. Every team has these guys sitting on their bench. We're now capable of upgrading in CF, and we have an extra 3 million dollars to spend. This is a salary dump, plain and simple. Also, does anyone remember who we were to receive in that Florida trade that never happened?
  19. This is hilarious. For two years now, most of NSBB has been slamming Jacque and wanting him ran out of town at any cost. And for awhile, you couldn't go 5 posts without someone bitching about Felix Pie's lack of playing time. So Hendry (apparently) finds a taker for Jacque, and even manages to free up 3 million dollars in the process. NSBB's reaction? Hatred of the move, of course. Get a grip, people. The player who you have wanted gone for two years is about to be gone. The golden boy Felix Pie appears to be the frontrunner for the CF position at this point. What more do you want? Stop complaining.
  20. Why is Norv Turner so afraid to give LT the ball?
  21. Tim, can you put the link to check your entries in the first post? That way people don't have to click on the 2nd page and scroll down to find it every time.
  22. Worked fine for me. What is the prize for winning this thing?
  23. My bad, I thought those were BCS rankings.
  24. West Viginia barely beats a lousy Louisville team, and as a result they move up and pass Mizzou in the standings? [expletive].
  25. No fair, you stole my comparison before I had a chance to use it. Infante could be a worthwhile gamble, but does anyone else think his value isn't quite at what Jones' is? Please explain to me how Infante is anything like Barrett? Barrett's bat wouldn't play at a corner infield postion and he was athletic enough to move to catcher. Infante's bat isn't even that good for a middle infielder and he's played some in CF. I don't see the comparison. The comparison has nothing at all to do with defense or the positions they play. That what has it do with? Is that English?
