  1. That's not true. Guzman was very good last year at Iowa for 15 starts. I'm not that impressed with an ERA over 4 in AAA. Decent, sure. Very good? Hardly.
  2. The last time Guzman had success at AA or higher was four years ago, in 2003. I can understand the reasoning for not wanting Miller in the rotation, but I don't understand the logic behind assuming that Guzman will be better when he hasn't done anything in the past several years.
  3. Van Kampen Investments? That's new. Isn't it? I don't recall there being ads on the tarps last year. Great pics.
  4. Which teams, aside from the small market teams that have no other choice, do that?
  5. But he was and its still Howrys job as our supposed best reliever to get him out. Hell anything but give up a home run to Adam Freakin Everett. Howry and Eyre have been horrible so far this year. Money well spent there. 7 games.... Give it a little more than a week into they year before we evaluate if it was money well spent. The real comedy is in the game threads, after each win or loss they are either losing 100 games, or headed to the playoffs. I dont care if its 7 games into the season. The point of the matter is that its absolutely ignorant to spend big money on relievers. They are not worth it considering you have just as good of a chance using somebody from your own system. Just as good of a chance? How is it that minor league pitchers who failed as starters and thus were converted to relievers (for the most part) have just as good of a chance to be as good as a guy who has proven to be successful as a major league relief pitcher? How many guys that are supposedly proven major league set up guys or closers started out as that? Over half the relievers in MLB were failed starters, and they are too hard to predict how they are going to perform year to year , hence why it is dumb to spend big money and big years on supposed proven relievers. So you'd rather go into the season with a bullpen full of seven guys that have never thrown a big league pitch than a pen full of guys who have proven that they can get big league hitters out? I wouldn't. Nor would every single GM in baseball.
  6. uhh, you forgot to mention that most of those "major league relief pitchers" also failed as starters in the minors. small detail that is kind of important there. Yeah, and then succeeded as relief pitchers. Whereas the minor league arms that people would rather have on their team have proven nothing. Just cause Howry has had success in the big leagues doesn't mean that every current minor league will.

  8. Barrett is a stud with the bat. His overblown defensive problems are more than offset by what he brings to the table on offense.
  9. Hank White is a great asset to this team. I think he should catch everytime Zambrano starts.
  10. Nice! Did he hop?
  11. Wow, that's pretty steep. Basically 30 bucks a month. I'll still pay it though, assuming it's an option.
  12. It had that last night as well. What's the cost for the season? Or is it billed by the month?
  13. I wish Barrett were starting again today, coming off of his first good game of the season. But it was obvious that Blanco was going to start today regardless of anything, being that it's an early day game after a night game.
  14. Izturis has been solid thus far, I have no problems with him hitting second at this point.
  15. Wow, D-Lee owns Ben Sheets. This should be a great game today!
  16. Murton is 5-12 with a 1200 OPS against him and Floyd gets the start? Why?
  17. I just got off the phone with Charter and was told that they're negotiating right now for it. I had to get transferred three times before I could actually speak with someone who could tell me that. Man Charter's customer service is horrible.
  18. For what it's worth, I think a thread like this one after every game is a great idea.
  19. I'm a big Grady Sizemore fan. He's going to have a huge year.
  20. Duncan will put up solid numbers hitting in front of Pujols. But I agree with you in that the Cardinals offense isn't good. Coupled with their makeshift rotation, I don't see them being much of a threat in the NL Central this year.
  21. How does this affect Charter?
  22. who would you have hit there? that's the izturis we know and love. It works, and Cub fans complain. :? Some people are pre-programmed to complain about anything. yes, we're known as Cub fans ;) So am I the odd one out? I guess I didn't get that gene as a Cubs fan. You're hardly the odd one out.
  23. Damn, what an outting by Lilly! Who's up in the pen?
