  1. That's what I've been saying. I'm thinking 5/6 years, 10/11M per. But there's still the thing that both LA and NY teams have a SS (or 2 in case of the NY teams). The larger markets appear to be set at SS besides the Cubs. Still, I think Seattle, Washington and others will be players in the FA market this offseason. I agree...with the lack of SS's available he will be a very expensive signing. What SS's could the Cubs get via trade? There's been lots of speculation about Lugo from TB. I would love to get Furcal, but not 5/6 years and $10/$11 million per year. When he starts getting in that range, I would let Cedeno have the job. I'd love to see Cedeno get the job but as long a Baker is there I don't think it'll happen. Is there any chance that Greenburg could play CF next year and be that elusive leadoff guy? Maybe Walker?
  2. Wee doggy that's a lot of bread! Who's market is that anyway Hoops cause I hope the Cubs don't shop there.
  3. A Greek tragedy. Achilles had his achilles while the Gladiator has the toe.
  4. I don't agree with shutting them down either but Baker just does not have a clue on how to run a pitching staff. Why in Gods green earth was Z out there in the 8th?
  5. I say pitch them with 3 days rest so that way the Cubs can have some more arms in the pen.
  6. I know Lou has a veteran fetish at TB..of all places, how was he when he was competing for first with Seattle?

  8. exactly how is it the fans fault? Do other teams fans do something different that allow their prospects to flourish? Is it their accents? Something in the water? Do they not go to the games thus minimizing the likelihood of bringing career ending embarassment? Are we that much worse than Philly fans (note, where I currently reside)? The are ahead in the wild card and consistently CRUCIFY (on the air, in print, in person) their players, players that are on a winning team I might add. If anything, I think we expect TOO LITTLE from our players. you've gone through 3 or more levels of the minors, are getting paid $$$$ to play sports and have been groomed for this moment probably since you were 5 years old. PRODUCE. SHeesh My point is that Cub postion players, especially since they are few and far between, have an added pressure to succeed and we as Cubs fans want to do so. But, when they struggle we tend to jump on them a lot more than the normal player since we've been waiting X amount of years for them to be up on the Cubs. I want them to produce also.
  9. Nice ideas Hoops but it'll never happen with Baker there....never. Also, I like the moves but I agree with Vance about rushing Pie.
  10. This might help Nomar in 2006 out if he can play 3rd too.
  11. I think the Cubs were just a bad hop from winning it all in 2005.
  12. I say: "Yeahhh..." and "excellent" the most. Third is "Did I say that out loud?"
  13. I'd like to see that but I wouldn't be surprised if the Cubs called up Kelton instead....for the righty bat. It'll probably be Fontenot. Kelton isn't on the 40-man, while Fontenot is. I fully expect Macias to get all the starts, though. It would be interesting to see the Cubs do something crazy like add Matt Craig to the 40-man and promote him from West Tenn. That's right I forgot Kelton wasn't on the 40 man. I was wrong.
  14. Is it oceanfront property in Kansas? Shhh...that's how they get the basketball recruits.
  15. I agree with getting some OF/SS help is more important than Wagner for the Cubs at this juncture. Let Wagner go to Texas or Baltimore so the Cubs don't have to face him anymore too.
  16. Lee is going to be a tough call for the Cubs. If he signs for a fair price I'd like to see him stay. Even if he falls to a 25/80/275 guy he still plays above average D and runs the bases well.
  17. I'd like to see Hendry get rid of some of this young surplus pitching and get an impact player. The Cubs are going to lose a couple in the rule 5 draft so they might as well move some A+ prospects and the marginal rule 5 guys.
  18. Has anyone ever seen MacPhail and Woo-Woo at the same time?
  19. I also think the fans are to blame. Yeah, the prospects haven't been the best but we are so eager to have a player come up and do well we jump all over the guy when he doesn't. Pie will be a good example of this and when he turns out to be a below Pierre 265/300 kind of player we will once again crucify him as a lot of fans do CPatt. The over hype and hope will continue as the Cubs concentrate on drafting pitchers and we search for the next postion player savior.
  20. Since the Hendry era.....what do the Cubs rank in having thier farm system kids play in the MLB? Out of that, how many are impact players?
  21. I agree. This is why I like the Jays, they actually play kids from their own farm system....what a concept.
  22. That was a blast from the past no doubt. What somebody like MacPhail says over the radio and what action they actually take may be two different things....at least I hope so.
  23. I think Blanco should only swing at inside pitches.
  24. Cox actually came in the game and pitched?
  25. I'd like to see that but I wouldn't be surprised if the Cubs called up Kelton instead....for the righty bat.
