But it was the third year that made this all happen. I never liked this deal either at any time and I just hope that Hendry has learned from it. IMO, it was a PR move as much as landing a decent starter and now it's time to pay the piper. Hendry gambled that the starters would keep the Cubs in contention and that the crud he put on the field would pick it up a notch to push the Cubs into first...he was wrong on both counts.

If I remember correctly Lee was originally going to Baltimore in a trade that broke down at the last minute for some reason and Hendry swooped in and took advantage. Could they be interested in him again?

More could have been done the previous offseason. There was enough on the market to make the Cubs a very good tream. Why couldn't they get Tejada or Vlad? Hendry was very shortsighted, and now I could definitely see them overspending on crap this offseason. True. Hendry lacked imaginiation and vision to make the Vlad or Tejada moves.

Payton has an 4 million team option next year, and Roberts has another year of arbitration before free agency. What about Mora? What does Baltimore need to make him a Cub?

If I am a talented black kid and was a great athlete and could play any sport I'd look at the NFL, NBA and MLB. What is the best chance to get a scholarship? Which would be the best Pro sport? NBA, NFL, then MLB Now, I'm a talented white kid with the same qualities. What do you do? MLB, NFL, NBA I have heard recruiters for NIKE camps and AAU actually tell both white and black kids to look at the pro sports and decide which sport you want to do. A couple more things. I had one of the best LL kids ever to play for me. He was a 5 tool kid. He was bored out of his mind playing baseball even though he led the team in HR's...by far. He loved soccer and there he went. A lot of very good athletes go this direction around here unless there dad is really into baseball. The city schools around here are mostly black. Yet, very very few are on the High School baseball teams. Why, I don't know and these teams struggle to even put a full roster out there. Now, Aaron, Bonds, and Mays were all black and during these kids fathers or their time. These are the most prolific home run hitters of our time. Nothing is hotter to kids than a home run hitter....nothing in baseball. It hasn't translated to young black kids playing baseball so I don't see Willis really making that any better other than to throw kids mechanics off.

I think that Maddux has earned his money a lot more than Wood has for the last 2 years. Both have been overpayed there is no denying that.

I would like to see the Cubs go after Burrell and Wells. I'd move CPatt, Walker, cash and a couple of major prospects to Toronto for Wells and Hudson or Adams. I'd trade a host of young pitchers and Burnitz (pick up option) for Burrell.

Right. Don't get mad at him and trade him for junk because he does have value. When I watch Corey swing it makes my body hurt. He looks so awkard lately and I do not like what the Cubs have done to his hips. His swings are way too army.

What scares me most about Wilson is how streaky of a hitter he is. If the Cubs can get 2 corner OF's that can hit 25-35/280-320 I'd be content with Wilson. That would be a lot of cash in the OF though.
