  1. The feeling I got was that Girardi was going to wait for the Cubs to open up, but seeing as he is gonna take the Marlins, he feels the job in Chicago won't be opening up soon. :x I don't blame him for taking a job like this when it's offered. The Fish have a pretty good team and organization so it isn't like he is taking a job with the Royals. I think it's a decent opportunity for him and there is no guarantee that he would get the Cub job. Add to that that it might not just be Baker that gets canned.
  2. Oh, pooo !! You mean I gotta go back and shoot out that camera ??? You forgot! If it's found out all the teams will know why the Cubs have been so successful over the years.
  3. What bricks...I don't see any bricks. Have they put in the secret cameras in center field yet? Or was I not suppose to say that?
  4. i don't like the idea of nomar playing a corner OF spot. if we bring him back, he should play short. besides, if we get giles and trade for bradley or sign lofton, murton will play left and we won't need him. i like the idea of bringing nomar back at short, adding giles and lofton. it's simple and addresses needs. furcal would be a nice sign, but it's not necessary. I can't imagine sidearm throws from the OF. IMO Nomar should either play SS or 3B...possibly 1st.
  5. Yeah, it's pouring out there. Some of what we've been having the past few days. I thought it never rained in California and Arizona?
  6. Do you think the Cubs will sign Giles?
  7. So then why'd they throw Raffy under the bus? Does an independent 3rd party lab test the results, or do MLB employees? He was expendable and part of the reason why you all are disagreeing with me. You all can feel the way you want to obviously...I just think that MLB/players union are not being truthful about this. Cuse, I do think there is a little truth in what you say. I too find it odd that with the exception of Raffy, it's been all minor leaguers and fringe players. It wouldn't shock me if there was some sort of cover-up going on. The problem with a conspiracy theory is motive. Consider what MLB has to gain by protecting all-stars and then consider what it has to lose. It makes no sense. This is what they have to lose. MLB and the Players Union do not know what the new policy is going to be. If a decent or impact player is caught now he will a second time loser if he gets caught again and maybe kicked out of baseball. Even with the 10 day suspention this might turn into a career if caught twice so IMO MLB is holding back until they either: A-know what the second suspention is going to be B-Think the first might be big enough in the new one.
  8. So you want: Nomar Cedeno Perez For short then? Go with Cedeno. Spend the extra money for Giles and bullpen. I agree with you and Vance. I just see a Neifi thing happening if Nomar doesn't come back. And Vance, I don't want Perez here if Baker is here either.

  11. Just curious, why does a story about Felix getting busted equate to the policy being a joke? Does it have to bust bigger names to make it worthwhile? No. What makes it a joke is that it's either guys that most fans have never heard of or a guy that will probably be out of baseball soon. So you think they're protecting bigger names? If you ask me, it makes perfect sense that the fringe players would be taking the chance of getting caught simply to try and stay in the game. Unfortunately, the best players are rich enough to find the stuff that can't be detected. I wouldn't say that makes the policy a joke, it's just an inherent problem with all steroid testing policies. Semantics. I think the fringe ones are easy to turn in.
  12. IMO bigger names are getting away with using enhancing drugs and MLB is turning its head the other way. This is why it's a joke...they are throwing the fans bones and many are accepting it which is your right. I'm not.

  14. I didn't think Felix was still in baseball. This steroid policy continues to be a joke.
  15. Conversely, if the Cubs botch this offseason they could be the 5th best team in the Central. And part of that is counting on Wood to be healthy. If Wood gives the Cubs over 180 innings this year I'll be very surprised.
  16. Yep. So many ways they can go. I would even try to trade Carlos Lee if I were them. I'd be thrilled if the Cubs had an OF like Lee and the Brewers might be able to trade him....that sickens me. Jealous and now sick. Lee's overrated. He racks up the triple crown numbers, but doesn't walk at all. He's the LH Garrett Anderson of 3 years ago. I thought he did have a decent OBP?

  18. I'm jealous of the Brewers. If they do this right they will have the team I thought the Cubs would have had.
  19. but we don't need guys who walk, we need guys who hit. You ain't kidding brother. Imagine Perez letting any of those pitches go by?
  20. I agree. I'd rather be in the Astros position than the Cards.
  21. It might be the last chance you have to see a World Series game in Chicago so I'd take advantage of it. Make sure you get yourself all White Soxed up and get a tattoo and a 8 inch knife. Maybe you and your dad can jump the 1st base coach too.
  22. It reminds me of the Simpsons' episode where Bart tapes Lisa's appearance on the Krusty Cmeback Special and the part where she tells Martin she can't stand him. "Ooh. I think I can pause it right at the point where his heart breaks." I wish I had Tivo so I could replay the collective gasp of the crowd. Had they still been in the Astrodome, the massive fan-generated vacuum would have collapsed the roof. Not to be a nerd about it, but it was Ralph Wiggam whose heart broke. It was Ralph? That's unpossible!
  23. NASA sent up Bruce Willis to make sure when the ball lands it won't destroy earth. Big mistake walking Edmonds.
  24. I was just talking to one of my friends who coaches Jr Bronco (9-10 year olds) back in the suburbs, and he was saying that he would rather see a long "Griffey" swing out of kids at that age rather than a Pujols/Bagwell swing. Reason being at that young age most of them don't have the power in the upper body to drive the ball out of the infield, and will get frustrated quickly with a Pujols/Bagwell swing. He said that in high school they should switch to the shorter swing as they develop more muscle in their upper body. His two cents - thought it was interesting. Not me. I want the kids to swing correctly from the get go and trying to change a kids bad mechanics when he is 12-14 years old is a very hard thing to do. If he has had moderate success with a long swing he will be reluctant to change and once he starts facing pitchers with some serious heat or that can change speeds he will get eaten up. Interesting take. I know from playing through high school that was true for pitchers (and throwing in general), but many of us tinkered and changed with our stances as we started to face better pitching junior and senior year of high school. Also I just watched Albert's feet as he hit a 450 ft home run off Brad Lidge to fight off elimination. That was unbelievable. A stance is one thing but changing hitting mechanics is quite another. Kids have to know and be told that a good swing will work at any age. Let me also add when you have a kid that has made Little League All Stars and think they have the swing down...they are an interesting breed to fix. If I have kids that are doing the proper mechanics from Day 1 it makes tweeking so much easier. It's the coaches job in the younger ages to try to do his or her best and teach the kids the best proper mechanics they can. The many wrong things taught are the overstride "Step into the ball", elbow up and Swing hard and long and the ball will go farther while simple things like the Knocking knuckles being lined up and back foot pivit (Squish the bug) are being over looked. The hip torque is so important when it comes to power and I don't know why that's not pushed instead of the long swing. Pujols is a wonderful hitter to watch, his swing just looks so effortless.
  25. And Goony's point is that getting Wilson is not acceptable. I respect his opinion. I think he's wrong on this one. He thinks I'm wrong. Either way, it will always be civil. Oh, I know it's civil! Sometimes my sense of humor doesn't traslate well to text :D Well you are the Rich Hill of the board. :? See? The humor of an arched eyebrow just doesn't work via emoticon. Oh....I get it now. I think that Wilson could give the Cubs Burnitz numbers at CF at the 7th hitting position. That's not bad IMO with 25 HR's 265/310 and a decent CF defense. What would that rank CF wise?
