  1. And Goony's point is that getting Wilson is not acceptable. I respect his opinion. I think he's wrong on this one. He thinks I'm wrong. Either way, it will always be civil. Oh, I know it's civil! Sometimes my sense of humor doesn't traslate well to text :D Well you are the Rich Hill of the board.
  2. Twilight music starts to play.......the Pez man steps up and takes the starting SS job.
  3. Career stats I seriously doubt the Lions will post him. Japanese teams are becoming more and more reluctant to post their superstars. The Swallows refused to post Iwamura again this offseason, for instance. From the video I've seen, Matsuzaka's fastball is in the 90-94 range, with a lot more 90, 91s than 94s. His high IP totals scare me. My days of thinking the Cubs will ever get a player from Japan are over.
  4. I actually like Shannon. He's funny and compared to some of the other goofs who call Cardinal games (on tv and radio), he's good. He is to Card fans what Santo is to Cub fans. Anyway, he's a former Cardinal player who had to end his career early due to some illness/disease. He's been a broadcaster for the Cardinals for more than thirty seasons. He may be funny Dal but it hurt listening to his call on the last play of the game.
  5. Chicago Cubs....you are my density.
  6. Evidently he can't hit the high inside strikes either. :D Definately not when he's looking low.
  7. I'm not certain Corey would put up that line, but he could. And even if Preston puts up that line and Corey doesn't, Wilson is not likely to be worth twice the cost. I'm more comfortable making real upgrades in RF and sticking with Corey in center, than wasting time and money on the bum that is Preston Wilson in center and inevitably settling for a second rate RF. There is just no way that Hendry goes hard after a big time RF if he goes after and gets Wilson. He'll package Wilson as a real solid signing, rather than the bumgap that he truly is. God I hope not. I still think an OF of: Murton Wilson (Floyd/Giles/Manny/Dunn) CPatt Hairston is solid and if Hendry can Furcal I would be content with that.
  8. The dude is capable of a .250/.320/.450 season, and he'll likely get paid more than twice what Patterson will make*. That's a huge upgrade over 2005 Corey, but I have to believe Patterson can at least put up his career average numbers next year, which aren't that far off from that line. And while I've given up on the idea of Corey as a star, I would not be at all surprised if Corey outproduces Wilson next year. *You know that if Jim goes after him he'll be more than happy to grossly overpay, as he has with so many other mediocre free agent signings. Considering Patterson made $2.8M in 2005, and will likely get $3.0M in 2006, I would have no issue if Hendry paid Preston Wilson $4.5-5.0M in 2006. Just as long as he's paying Brian Giles $11M or Adam Dunn $8M. Hoops I agree with that. I want a impact bat aquired for the right side.
  9. I don't have a problem with Patterson and Hairston being the 4th and 5th OF's.
  10. Who is Mike Shannon and why doesn't he know who plays 2nd for the Astros? That was some of the worst play by play at the end of a game I've ever heard.
  11. I believe he said it was speculation and I would assume that GM's talk about different players before actually making a trade.
  12. I didn't realize that Edmonds can't hit low pitches. The Astros are staying down and doing quite well with him. I really think that the Astro pitchers are hitting their spots more then the Card hitters failing to take advantage of hittable pitches.
  13. Castillo worries me. Somebody convince me he is going to be a 290/370 healthy 2nd baseman.
  14. I was just talking to one of my friends who coaches Jr Bronco (9-10 year olds) back in the suburbs, and he was saying that he would rather see a long "Griffey" swing out of kids at that age rather than a Pujols/Bagwell swing. Reason being at that young age most of them don't have the power in the upper body to drive the ball out of the infield, and will get frustrated quickly with a Pujols/Bagwell swing. He said that in high school they should switch to the shorter swing as they develop more muscle in their upper body. His two cents - thought it was interesting. Not me. I want the kids to swing correctly from the get go and trying to change a kids bad mechanics when he is 12-14 years old is a very hard thing to do. If he has had moderate success with a long swing he will be reluctant to change and once he starts facing pitchers with some serious heat or that can change speeds he will get eaten up.
  15. Don't worry the 7th place team in the crappy Big East beat them by 40 points so it should be an easy game for you guys.
  16. Could the Cubs afford Manny after doing this?
  17. I see nothing wrong with getting players that can hit AND play defense. What a novel concept.
  18. The "problem" stems from an allegation that Lowe (who is married) has been having an affair with a Dodgers beat reporter, which has caused some awkward moments in that clubhouse. That's what I have been told. what? sleeping with the woman that is trashing your teammates in the local newspaper would cause a problem? Shheeesh...over-sensitive! :D A woman? I thought it was Charlie Stiener.
  19. And since the NFL moved the Bears to the NL West they have a chance to finish first. :D I congratulate the White Sox on a very good season.
  20. Yeah they do....the Cubs do every 5 years or so.
  21. If family/location is the big concern, how could Boston, Houston or STL be ahead of the Cubs? They win? But what does that have to do with family? Nobody has bid on anybody yet. Only SD can talk to Giles. Nobody is ahead of anybody else. The Cubs can get him if they want him. It's insane to talk about the impossibility of signing him. I'm just saying that if Giles rules out the home thing that winning teams would be the next thing on the list unless cash is the most important thing to him.
  22. If family/location is the big concern, how could Boston, Houston or STL be ahead of the Cubs? They win?
  23. Hmmm, 3/24 maybe? Like many things this offseason, it would depend how the rest of the offense is shaping out. I wouldn't sign him. What would you do with him in 2007 or 2008, when Pie will likely be here? Move him to the corner? That's a valid point, but I don't think even with a player of Pie's talent that you can guarantee that he'll be up. However, that is worth considering in the FA market, which is another reason not to sign Damon. On the other hand, Pie wouldn't prevent me from trading for Milton Bradley. Yeah, Pie wouldn't prevent me from trading for a CF for the next year, but I wouldn't commit big money to a FA if I believed that Felix was going to be a star. I wonder if Pie would ever have enough power to be a corner OF?
  24. I'm really, really hoping that Murton and Cedeno are in front of him in the line. I'm then hoping that the Cubs decide that three rookies would be more than Johnnie B. could handle at one time in the starting lineup. Imagine if Hendry saw all the rookies playing fro Atlanta and decided that was who he was going to imitate for 2006? But Atlanta didn't set out to go with all those rookies. They had to fallback to a lot of them due to injuries. Pie shouldn't see Wrigley in 2006. There's too much at risk. If there is remarkable improvement, and somebody goes down midseason, then maybe he gets the call. But right now, he's got no business moving up. I agree that Pie should stay down Goony but I'm not so sure Mr. Hendry does.
