  1. If all they wanted was speed at the top, they could've stuck with Patterson in the leadoff role. In 2005, Patterson got in 18 games (3rd most on the team) as the #2 hitter .179/.220 and 32 games (2nd most on the team) as the lead off hitter .211/.263. If he hit .275 AVG (not OBP), I'm not so sure he ever would have lost that job. This team doesn't focus on OBP. They focus on speed and contact at the top of the order. Patterson got 441 out of 631 total at bats as the lead off hitter or #2 hitter in 2004. That's more than 2/3 of a season. Bellhorn was one of the best OBP guys to lead off that this team has seen in the 2000's. The day Baker took over, Bellhorn lost that job. He neither had speed or contact. He was all about OBP. Patterson has been in and out of games for the Cubs since 2000. He has a career .293 OBP. I rest my case. Scary stuff isn't there Perry Mason? :P If this stuff continues I'm going to well to do...nothing I suppose since I have no power with this organization but it's just so frustrating to watch. I just hope that Mr. Hendry happens upon a OBP machine that Baker will accidently bat first.
  2. Pitching, pitching, and more pitching. The need to improve their offense as well as their pitching. What's the deal with your sig? I love close games.
  3. Personally my feelings are he is thinking too much about what he has to do and isn't comfortable with his mechanics. I agree about the mental block and the switch from a non pressure situation to a pressure one, many just go back to what they know.
  4. Talks have hit a snag with Baltimore according to ESPNews, the Braves want a prospect for compensation.
  5. They just suggested on ESPNews that Tony LaRussa should throw out the first ball the the White Sox since he used to play for them. :D
  6. If I see Felix, I'll let him know you didn't think he was worth the money. While doing a search, I came across an article about how the Dominican League signed a multi-year deal with ESPN Deportes last year. Courtesy of Google's page translator, I found this pic of Felix Foot: http://www.licey.com/jugadores/felixpie.jpg Showing off his guns. Looks like you can listen to their games live on their website. Anyone wanna give that a shot next time? His arms are literally twice the size they were for Lansing. If he is playing baseball during the winter how is that possible?
  7. I know Joel Guzman - the Dodgers top position prospect - is down there. He's playing 3B for the winter. AND I GET ESPN DEPORTEST AT WORK! But I work in the evenings. :( You should just go to work in the afternoon. Or he should get a second job that has ESPN Deportest during the day. Out of curiousty, what does Pie grade regarding the 5 tools? Arm=? Speed=? and so on?
  8. This Nomar hate seems to be clouding your math skills. Nomar didn't have a zero OBP while he was sitting on the DL, he had an undefined OBP on the DL. (Zero devided by zero isn't zero, nor is it infinity... it's undefined.) C'mon... that's basic Calc stuff right there. ;) I, for one, still say Nomar should be option #1 for our 2006 SS. I don't see the need to grossly overpay for a mediocre bat just because he's slightly less likely to spend significant time on the DL. I agree with you BK but...a leadoff hitter has to be found. Which is why I also want Walker back. If we don't get a CF who is up to the task this offseason he'll be fine in that role. And I assume you think the Cubs will have a manager too? :D I don't see that happening BK, not with Baker. I agree with it but it just isn't going to happen. ](*,)
  9. I forgot what kind of talent they have in the Dominican League?
  10. I swear the ball looks like it shoots out of Oswalts hip. His compact motion is interesting.
  11. Honus Wagner....he signed his card for me.
  12. I think it would be a major move if the Cards dealt Edmonds and Rolen to the Yanks for ARod and put Eckstein at 2nd and sign Giles and a CF.
  13. 14. Congrats Jimy and I hope we can have this happen to us sometime too! I don't hate either team but I do hate the fact that the Cubs have never been in the WS in my lifetime.
  15. I see Edmonds going to the Yankees for some reason.
  16. Walker has retired. He had a press conference after the game announcing it. It's too bad that such a good player had to be injured at a time like this in his career. I know he was hurt a lot but this was a tough one.
  17. Is it possible that the Cubs want a better defensive 2nd baseman because they may sign Nomar?
  18. I don't know about that but I've always thought of superheros as uniqs (sp-no sexual organs).
  19. Astros in 6.
  20. Yeah it would have been nice to see the CUbs at least try to get in on this but it would appear it wasn't just about money for Leo as he turned NY down. This is all purely my opinion but in addition I think it was either working with Perlozzo or staying put. He grew up in Maryland and has wanted to work with Perlozzo, who remains his best friend from childhood, for a long time. I don't think we had any shot at getting him. That's the way I feel too.
  21. Mr. Miles has often touted Atlanta bench coach Fredi Gonzalez as an excellent managerial candidate. Ned Yost has turned into a good manager in Milwaukee after spending time on Bobby Cox's staff; many analysts feel Terry Pendleton (Braves hitting instructor) has a rosy future as a manager, and he was going to be interviewed by the Dodgers until he pulled back yesterday for family reasons. I have no doubt Fredi could be a great one too - hanging out with Bobby Cox for several seasons must be an education and a half. If Baker and the Cubs don't agree to an extension during the Spring, I wouldn't be too surprised to see Gonzalez or Pendleton given an opportunity this time next year. One can dream hoops.
  22. Makes no sense to me. Move like that now is what I meant.
  23. Maybe another team has inquired about him...I don't know. I just think you all want these moves to be done to make all of you to feel better about the direction the Cubs are going more than why he hasn't made a roster move yet. I think Macias is a waste of roster space...that I will not deny. Let's wait and see if Hendry does too and the difference is you guys want it done yesterday and I just want it done before the rule 5 draft.
  24. My question is why do you think it's a hurry? Other teams decline options on guys they don't want to bring back, why wouldn't the Cubs? You don't need to wait until you can acquire a replacement before you decide to get rid of the incumbent. Because there is no reason to make a move like that. I understand the fear by all of you that the multi talented one is coming back and I fear that too. But, I am hoping that Hendry has a reason for keeping all these players around and the dominos will fall as they should...I hope.
