  1. IMO Greens best years are behind him. I'd rather see the Cubs get a guy that is older and can still bang out 30-40 HR's or a younger guy that is a 25 HR with a high OBP.
  2. Actually they didn't shut him down early. After deciding he would need surgery, they delayed it so he could throw meaningless bullpen innings, putting at risk his timetable for 2006. I originally laughed but then I realized it was true. Good times 2005.
  3. Also they don't have to pay the salary tax like the Yanks do.
  4. Who can explain the man that is Jim Hendry?
  5. In 2004 Pierre hit .380 in (non-sacrifice) bunt attempts. In 2005 he hit .431 when bunting for a hit. This is interesting stat: We know Dusty likes guys who can excute a bunt. The tall grass in the Wrigley field IF will only help Pierre. If by "help" you mean "hurt", I agree. Pierre hits ground balls. On the ground. In the grass. they will go slowly. Fielders will get them. they will not go through holes to the OF. He will be thrown out Cut the friggin' grass. You have to talk to the Grass Cutters Union Local 123 and they are harder to deal with than the previous Tampa Bay GM. Couldn't you say that if the grass was shorter his grounders would get to the fielder faster and help the fielder to get the ball to first before he could reach? I never understood the grass length argument. If Pierre rolls one halfway to a fielder and past the pitcher, he has the edge because of his speed - and in most cases the fielder would have to put the ball in his pocket to save from throwing past the first baseman off-balanced. I think it depends on how hard Pierre hits the ball. If he hits a bunch of slow rollers yeah, that may help him. If the fielders are playing up I think they will be able to get those slow grounders but if the grass is short the harder grounders are going to get through quicker and the 3rd baseman will have less time to react.

  7. Interesting. How bad do the Yanks want to get rid of Pavano? Would Philly think he is good enough or would the Cubs or Yanks have to add a prospect to Philly? I believe it was Pavano that wanted out of NY, moreso than the other way around. I like it BbB. Now get me Tejada!!!! :sunny:
  8. What...are you Don King now? :afro:
  9. In 2004 Pierre hit .380 in (non-sacrifice) bunt attempts. In 2005 he hit .431 when bunting for a hit. Very interesting. He dumps them towards 3rd instead of 1st correct?
  10. where's our all important leadoff hitter? Bradley I believe.

  12. I think he may see what the Marlins are doing and it may be the best way to go. Toronto is loading up so there are 3 teams the O's have to pass. I think this would be a smart move for the O's to make a move toward the future. Granted, smart and Angelos don't go together but they can't compete with the others right now....not even close.
  13. I'm not sure I want Bradley now. I want a 30 HR 280/350 guy in right and I'm not sure Bradley fits that bill. Are any of those guys available? Here are the three guys I think the Cubs could be able to get. Through trade: 1. Kevin Mench 2. Austin Kearns 3. Milton Bradley 4. Brad Wilkerson 5. Aubrey Huff Through free agency: 1. Juan Encarnacion 2. Jaque Jones 3. Preston Wilson Wilkerson could put up those numbers, but I think he'd come short in BA. If he recovers from injuries, he has 30 HR power. Mench can provide the power, but his average is likely going to be in the 265-270 range with a 330-340 OBP. Bradley will give you the average and OBP, but will come up short in the power department. Huff would likely give you the power, but I'm a little concerned about him. Kearns could be the complete package, but he's less proven than the others. None of the free agents impress me. The paranoid part of me worries that Wilkerson and Huff were steroid guys and they make me nervous. Out of that list I'd take Bradley and it would allow the Cubs to trade Pierre for Schefield or a RF like him.
  14. I'm not sure I want Bradley now. I want a 30 HR 280/350 guy in right and I'm not sure Bradley fits that bill. That's only a .630 OPS! We had a funny guy like you in Korea. We killed him. :D
  15. I'm not sure I want Bradley now. I want a 30 HR 280/350 guy in right and I'm not sure Bradley fits that bill. Odds that hendry can make a trade for bradley: 99% Odds that hendry can make a trade for one of the big sluggers: not so good get bradley, keep trying to get another RF, and heck, dump pierre off on someone later if you manage it. Not that hendry will I see your point as the lesser of many evils. This is why I want Hendry to shock the baseball world and aquire Tejada!
  16. Arkansas coach Houston Nutt didn't even have West Virginia in his top 25. Yeah, it's a real good idea to have these guys vote.

  18. I was hoping that Mitre would be in the trade and not Pinto or Nolassco! :D
  19. What's his batting average when he does bunt?
  20. Now that the Cubs have a leadoff hitter I overpay for Tejada. I would rather have him than Abreu and the Cubs could get a platoon to play RF.
  21. So far the Cubs have this lineup....Dusty style: Pierre CF Perez SS Lee 1B Ramirez 3B XXXXXX RF Murton LF Barrett C Cedeno 2B Or Pierre CF Walker 2B Lee 1B Ramirez 3B XXXX RF Murton LF Barrett C Perez SS
  22. Could the Cubs flip Pierre to the Yanks after the Cubs get Bradley and/or Lugo?
  23. Their team is going to be so crappy in 3 years. If they dont win a title before 2009, strip mining their system is going to kill them, and it's won't be pretty. Jason Stark just said the Benson deal has to go through first before the Mets can move on Zito. I think the Mets have enough money to do the Yankee thing since they have their own TV network now.
  24. Mike and Mike just mentioned that Zito may be a Met. Has anyone else heard anything about that?
