Who would you take in RF, if the Cubs didn't trade for Tejada, realistically? I want an impact hitter that would be at worst a 5 hitter. I want the Cubs to get: Abreu Dunn One of the young Arizona OF's Irchiro Manny Cabrera Who I would accept: Floyd (Murton moves to right) Nixon/Mench platoon Wilkerson White (Murton moves to right)
You are talking about the Cubs and not people on this site...right? The site, it was a (bad) joke. That was suppose to be a joke? Time for you to go back to Ohio. :D
I like Burrell and I'm not sure he even played leftfield. :D He may be cheaper in prospects than Abreu as long as the Cubs foot the bill. I think he is a better choice than many of the names we have read that Hendry is supposidly interested in.
I don't understand. Do you want the Cubs to make a move right now or would you be ok if they waited until just before Spring Training as long as it's a quality player? And please, don't give me your opinion, I would like just the facts. :D
I think Atlanta has made it with rookies year after year and not just last year. I also can't blame Murton for being the best corner OF the Cubs have right now, that's Hendrys fault. I am for playing the best players that can help this team win and after Baker rode the Holla train to the ground last year while Murton was hitting 350 I don't feel that Baker does put the best team in there. It's up to Hendry to evaluate the best players and to bring the best team he can to Chicago and that's his scouts main job, to find the players out there that will have a good year or be good players while in Chicago. If the scouts find out player X was slightly hurt and that is why he struggled or find a flaw that could help that player become successful then that is what they are paid to do.
I am by no means saying that outfield is ok. I just think that Patterson is the best option out of the available free agents. Yes, that lineup is very weak. But if Corey can duplicate his 03 numbers for a full year, that .511/.840 would look very good in the 6 or 7 spot. I agree but the Cubs need a 5 hitter at the very least.
i think that you need to weight OBP as a little more important than slugging. which is my overall problem with the OPS stat. not that i don't think it's an important one, because i do. If the Cubs have an infield of Lee, ARam and Tejada they could go for a couple of high OBP guys in the OF. I'm curious if Damon likes Center better than Left.
What about Tim Stuart for GM? :D That requires plane travel right?? 8-[ I guess we can't send him to Baltimore to ask about Miggy then eh? :D Bring back Dallas Green!!!!
Don't worry....Dusty will take of that problem for you in regards to Murton. Mabry will be playing LF for the majority of the games until he hits below 200 and then he'll just platoon with Murton.
My Mother-In-Law's best friend was Babe Ruths Nurse when he had cancer and was making his last tours around baseball as a spokesman. I was pretty surprised when she told me that.
Hey that's what I said if the Cubs got Damon! :D Makes sense. If we got Damon, we'd definately want our outfield to be Pierre, Pie, Murton from left to right. So if we got Damon, he becomes the DH? Macias. :D
The Sox won with great pitching. Podsednik was in Left Field. Don't confuse correlation with causation. The Cubs can win with Pierre if Wood, Prior and Zambrano total 100 starts each. There....fixed, play them in right when they are not pitching! I think what really hurts the Cubs in trades is that they don't have the proverbial 3rd starter on this team. They have two #1's, a possible 1 in Wood that is hurt and 3 #5's.
I think the trade that was on the table was folded up and put away at the Winter Meetings so the other team doesn't even know the trade exists. I never doubted the ability of Hendry to be patient and wait for a deal to happen. Sometimes he loses the deal when someone jumps in with a better offer but unless it's a player he really wants like Pierre....he seems to wait around and let things develop. Is that a good thing? We'll see.
Isn't Garland going to be a FA next year though? Would the Orioles want to trade for him not knowing whether he's going to be around for a while? A trade could be made on the contingent that they sign him long term. Hat said, I'm not sure the Sox can afford Miggy. I agree. Baltimore has plenty of money and if they trade Tejada to the White Sox I'm sure they would give Garland a very nice deal to stay. If not, the fans would go ballistic and and since the reason to trade Miggy was to still "stay" competitive the O's would be losing a huge opportunity to build up thier pitching staff with good young talent.
I'm not sure if you're kidding but Wilson is a FA so no prospects would be needed o acquire him. According to the Tribune, the Cubs talked to his agent before the Winter Meetings but he isn't a top option. I was joking Bh05. A better writer would have got that point across. I wouldn't mind Wilson but that would make this team very right handed so I see Murton riding the pines yet again.
