    I think it's time that Hairston siezes the opportunity and steps up. If he doesn't the whole time Lee is out, he's a bench player from here on IMO.

    I don't think you can make a blanket statement like that. Granted, some don't have a clue but a lot do know what they are doing.

    Exactly, but I have faith in Ronny. Me too. Ironically the Lee injury might make Perez play 2nd more (Walker at 1st) and give Ronny a little more slack from Baker.

    I see no reason to start Restovich every game. I think Baker may platoon him and have Walker play most of the games at 1st. Of course, I would like to see Hairston at 2nd over Neifi but I'm not so sure Baker will do that.

    Hendry does a pretty good job making trades and I think he'll do fine getting what the Cubs need for first.

    I don't want Hendry to go into a panic mode because of this and hurt this team for years. I'm comfortable with seeing how Sing can do at first and going from there.

    I look at it like this. Which pitcher would I want to have on my team for his whole career. Although I think Pedro is the most effective pitcher of the bunch I would take Clemens and then Maddux. Maddux goes out and pitches year after year after year and always takes the ball.

    Wow...no managers? I'll take that one. When it comes to playing time I except 10's and 20's.....cash that is.

    I think it will go that way too if all goes well and maybe Novoa if Baker keeps 12. I just don't think the Cubs will be hitting on all cylinders like that though and at least one of the young guys will be up and in the rotation for the year.

    What I'm hoping for are the days the Cubs hitters are struggling and Pierre gets on...steals second...moves over on a grounder to 2nd and scores on a sac fly and the Cubs win 2-1. IMO, baseball is not a game that all 8 guys have to hit 400 and if they do there is a pretty good chance they will all hit 150-200 following that. That's why I thought it was ok when Jones was struggling and the others were hitting the heck out of the ball and when the game was tight Jones came up with a big 3 run shot. Granted, you can't plan these things but that's what winning teams do, they have a guy step up and do something that helps win the game. If the Cubs can keep this winning desire and confidence I think it'll help a lot in winning some of those types of games. Right now Lee, Walker and Cedeno are hitting the heck out of the ball and Barrett and Murton are doing pretty well. If this goes the right way Ramirez, Pierre and one of those guys above will be hitting the ball well and the others will contribute at different times when they go into a slide. The same can be said about the pitching. Rusch stepped up Sunday after Z struggled as did the hitters. I just wish Baker wouldn't use Dempster so much.

    I think the Cubs signed Corey Patterson #2 to play RF for the next 3 years.

    As I said in the poll thread Rusch just can not get too much of the plate. If he can change speeds and move it in and out he'll be fine.

    I started to post that I was more concerned about Ramirez's slow start because I figured it'd have more meaningful effect on winning and losing, but I got distracted yesterday. There are probably two reasons people aren't all over Aramis. 1) We have established experience with what he's capable of doing, and he started off even slower last year. 2) he's not a new, one-dimensional hitter coming off a down year. Nevertheless, Aramis is more important to this team than Pierre is, and if he keeps struggling (and right now it appears he won't) the team will have problems as soon as guys who are red hot come down to earth. I think Ramirez will break out of it as he usually starts slow plus I think he is a warm weather hitter.

    We played a team a few years ago and my scorekeeper lost track after 190 pitches. The kid probably played SS the next day.
